You never finished your interview with one, I call that dongle-bias.

But all joking aside, everyone and I mean EVERYONE knows that with cubase it's a dongle, or a crack. Let the lock begin. No need for more debate (because you KNOW the crack aspect is coming)

I did this too. I run Elements on the laptop and Pro on the desktop. (I actually had an additional eLicenser dongle, from purchasing Nexus 2 back when it used to be included, so I'm using that.)

But yeah, the projects are compatible between Elements and Pro and I got Elements on one of Steinberg's half-off deals, so it was an affordable workaround to avoid swapping eLicensers between the machines all the time.

If it's really THAT hard to swap the dongle, the best & easiest solution to using Cubase 9 Pro between a laptop & a desktop (if using them in different locations), is to buy a 2nd Cubase 9 Pro license. No dongle swapping necessary because you'll have TWO, 100% compatibility between projects. Only thing you're out is money.

If you're using your desktop & laptop in the same room all the time, buy a USB switcher/hub...much cheaper than buying two licenses.

Slightly embarrassingly, I've done this as well in a Pro Tools crossgrade deal. 2 dongles, one lives in the laptop bag, plus Elements. So far I've used Elements 95% of the time on the laptop, Pro 5%. I seem to have some kind of aversion to using the things on the road, even the smaller new elicenser is one too many.

Thing is, for most of the time I've needed it on the MBP, Elements has been enough. It's only when I run into trouble I break out the dongle.

Personally I think Steinberg should at least make it so that one dongle can be used between two computers 'simultaneously' as long as they're in the same space.

I also think they should at least allow pre-existing users to have a 2nd USB license key without purchasing a full-cost license. I bet they would make a lot of extra money by doing this. I'm also betting people would buy a 2nd USB license dongle 'just because' and may never actually USE it, this would also bring in more money. But they're too worried that this would allow people to share their 2nd dongle and be able to use their product at too low of a discount

Unfortunately there are literally thousands and thousands, if not millions, of people in this world who would try to cheat the system if given the opportunity. It's just the way of the world since day one. It's been proven over and over that the "trust" system doesn't work. Just look on the internet and Youtube. It's effing scary how many people just don't give a shit about anything except themselves. Companies need to protect themselves from that garbage. This is how Steinberg goes about it.
