Your work ? Yes any patches made for a freeware synth should be free. End of Story. Your "work" pales in comparison to the work needed to create a synth. If the developer isn't making money neither should you. It's called morals. Get over it.

I don't get this line of thinking either. I don't see anything morally wrong with selling works created with Synth 1.

People sell things commercially with tools received for free all the time.

If people don't like his works, than they won't buy it which is a better measure of any number of opinions on the subject (inclusive of my own).

Saying that using free software or instruments for recording is not morally, is saying that people or even famous artists who use them in their songs shouldn't be paid for their artistic work either?
It's only a small encouraging fee for my work.
If Synth1 was payed software, the presets would cost x5. Check other soundware

Not to disrespect anyone's differing opinion, but I also see no problem with selling patches for freeware. You still have to create the patches, and no one is forced to buy them. Personally I think that Sylenth is a pedestrian synth, but more power to you if you create something desirable for it, and can therefore profit financially from your efforts. :tu:

Yeah, this is why I don't buy that many presets - because they're mostly overpriced for what you're actually getting.

Does a 200USD synth adjust a 50bucks 64 preset pack? That's something up for debate for sure. But I guess there is a market for anything.

Hilarious thread......2005 eh? Hell, that's back when things were definitely wild-west.

But of course. Actually, I would take it even further: Xcode is free, therefore all DAWs and plugins developed with it should be free. End of Story. The "work" of those developers pales in comparison to the work needed to create an IDE. If Apple isn't making any money with Xcode, neither should DAW or plugin developers. It's called morals. Get over it.
Now hold on a gosh darn minute.

By that definition, anything that has only been remotely created with the free VST SDK must have been released in freeware form as well, no? That means, about 99% of the plugins and instruments on the market?

What about webpages with shops that use the Bootstrap Framework?
Music that was encoded with the "free" LAME CODEC?

Or am I too naive with that notion?
