tracktion is my favourite sequencer of all time. i've never come across an easier to use, more intuitive or just downright fun sequencer in all my life. i got really into logic for years, and to me it was 'the only program'. i hated cubase mainly for its ugliness, but it also seemed to work against my way of thinking. when logic went to the mac-only shop, i started to use SONAR, but after a little while decided to try out tracktion.
i'd read about tracktion in magazines and stuff, and seen lots of "it's fantastic you really should try it", but who ever thinks that kind of thing is more than hype? when you're stuck using a sequencer, you just don't believe stuff like that do you?
best things for me:
1 - right mouse button dragging = horizontal zoom. how slick is that?!
2 - ALT-stretch clips - okay, the timestretching is glitchy which is good for effects anyway, but stretching the notes up and down in pitch is awesome for creating sub bass from basic one-note samples, for example. need to pitch the snare up a little? squash it in slightly! no need for pitch-shifting.
3 - rackfilters. i sometimes forget that they're there, but whenever i remember i knock up some really handy thing that would take months of configuration in any other program!
4 - per-clip filters. awesome. also, the individual clip parameters for pan and volume are utterly indispensible for adding variety and interest to tracks. how can we live without these things?!
5 - loop marker and fade handles. it's a shame that the looping doesnt apply for midi clips, but the loop marker in audio is awesome for doing micro trill/stutter clips. coupled with the fade handles you can do loads of ace things just with a single audio clip.
i'll stop now! glad to see nice happy people posting!
[p.s. downloading rackbitz now.. these look interesting, hopefully i'll come up with some more filterpacks! one so far, that is not very productive of me now is it??]
