Good info here also

So if you listen to the various interpretations people have from the sound, it's indeed a holy grail, seems simple but it isn't.
It's way more simple to make a complex Synth path. Lol

It boggles my mind how some people don't understand why the Jump intro is iconic. And for me to try to explain it would be a total waste of my time.

The song became famous, hence the intro became the famous, hence the synth sound became famous.wagtunes wrote:It boggles my mind how some people don't understand why the Jump intro is iconic. And for me to try to explain it would be a total waste of my time.
Few songs have intros as such, thus they always strike out, like with Foreigner's (or rather Thomas Dolby's) famous intro on I've been waiting for a girl like you.

Sorry, I don't share that view at all. it is no holy grail at all, it is simple. Just because people can't nail it 100% (which is no surprise when they use other synths or plugins, in this sense almost every original sound would be a holy grail because nailing it 100% is almost impossible), doesn't mean it is a holy grail, special, or whatever.godly wrote:Good info here also

Yes, I also love that intro, it has so much more class than the Jump one...

Interestingly, both rock bands adopted synths for the first time back then if I am not mistaken.

Yes, very nice Synth parts in those rock bands. Like Foreigner Cold as ice, that Synth.fluffy_little_something wrote:Interestingly, both rock bands adopted synths for the first time back then if I am not mistaken.
Or also Pink Floyd has iconic sounds of course.

That's a matter of taste but I see your point.fluffy_little_something wrote:Well done theregodly wrote:Mmmmm i get the chills everytime I hear that intro.fluffy_little_something wrote: Few songs have intros as such, thus they always strike out, like with Foreigner's (or rather Thomas Dolby's) famous intro on I've been waiting for a girl like you.

Pity that when they play it live it's not so iconic, but was because synths those days didn't have presets probably?

It is an interesting thread history:

-Bumped in Oct 2014
-And bumped again in Dec 2016
As a user all in favour of necroing threads, I am impressed

Jump is not bad,
but I prefer the first albums.
I'm listening to a live from 1978

It's a little-known fact that the synth intro for "Jump" plays an integral part in migraine research. Few other sounds can induce them so easily.
