It's this one, also a classic, although not as much as Wham's...

It's odd that that band made such a song

Christmas as a joke. The bells serve no purpose other than to fit the season (which the lyrics don't). Being an atheist, I understand that Christmas may be like a foreign land to you, but forget the first sentence (Gloria in Excelsis Deo) and concentrate in the second (Et in Terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis). I believe this fits everyone that has a heart and a soul.

I never associated "The Power of Love" with Christmas, but I guess it depends which Love we think about. But it's a great song, I agree.

Well, as long as people are religious, there won't be no pax :P

I don't know whether that FgtH song was intended for Chrismas or whether it got accidentally associated with it. But somehow I have known that connection for decades...

Hehe, but I don't think that song would have gotten 208 million (!) hits on YT if it were not a classic xmas song as the song as such is just mediocre.

I had forgotten to turn off the auto thingy in YT and after Wham they played Mariah Carey, 256 million hits, for the same reason.

Been singing this all day long... best Christmas song evah:

On a serious note, I do love me some "Oh holy night". I don't believe in gods, but I know the power of spiritual conviction.

I am a Christian too, that's why I also said that "Last Christmas" was a joke about Christmas. Seems like you misunderstood me. :dog:

Nothing wrong with "Last Christmas"

I don't think people really care much about the lyrics, the sound of the music as such is what matters. My parents like that song as a xmas song, but they don't even speak English, so no clue what the text is about.

Well, we are humans, i.e. just more sophisticated chimps, humans will always be like Jekyll and Hyde, unfortunately :P

Except that if you replace Christmas with Halloween, or Independence Day, or anything else, it fits as well. It has nothing to do with Christmas, except for the fact that they mention that day as a time reference: "Last Christmas / I gave you my heart / The very next day / you gave it away / This year / to save me from tears / I'll give it to someone special". What does Christmas have to do with this?

Hi Fmr... my response was not directed to you in any way.. it was directed to FLS!! But I dont believe people should x factor God..and Jesus Christ. but then it was said a loong time ago that we should expect times like these... perilous times... Kindness and Goodwill to humanity is God's message in this season!
