Hi everybody. My effort for the month :)

https://soundcloud.com/zarf/zarf-recoverme

33 instances of Synth1 in Ableton
Ableton eqs, compressors, reverbs, limiters, multiband compressor, delays
Ferric TDS
Sausage Fattener, U-he Satin, Voxengo Elephant

I quite enjoyed using some third party stuff and I don't think it makes that much difference to the way it was before, given the differences between different DAWs anyway. And it certainly doesn't suddenly enable me to do a pro mix, sadly!
I have mixed feelings about it overall... I think this rule makes as much sense if not more than DAW FX only - though personally I'd probably choose everyone having to use just freeware if it was my decision alone... but mainly I think the OSC is great whichever way this particular decision goes. :)

Good luck everyone and enjoy!

FL Studio 12
Synth1 x 30
Fruity parametric EQ2 x 24
Fruity parametric EQ x 1
Fruity Compressor x 1
Fruity Reverb 2 x 1
Tal-Reverb4 x 1
Maximus x 2
Fruity Convolver x 6
Fruity Limiter x 1
S.LA.X x 1

Now the boring part that no one reads but it "has to be" written...
I found inspiration in Synth1 itself because it's Japanese (in 2017 it will be 15 years old and it was my first ever 3rd party plugin which I installed in Fruity Loops 4...good old times of dial-up internet :hihi: ) and decided to work primarily in Insen (In sen) scale, but because the scale is pretty much similar to Arabic and Phrygian I tried to mesh everything up not only harmonically but rhythmically as well, from 180 bpm 4/4, slowing down to 120 bpm, speeding up to 180 bpm again and going in 9/8 time signature.

I didn't compose this with competition in mind because I have no interest whatsoever in prizes,
I did it for fun only and that's why the whole thing starts with something like post-punk/krautrock band banging in a basement (because I've played drums and guitar in such bands...find a good bass line, hit the rhythm and start improvising until brains start melting and Can will always be one of my favorite bands), switching to short Koto solo as an intro into classical electronic music track, then switching to more acoustic instrumental backed up with a percussion ensemble, but at the same trying for everything to be coherent and to make sense, like a musical journey through different sensibilities...

Happy New Year and I wish you all the best

Hi folks,

https://soundcloud.com/user-859363687/b ... ck-tactics

Made in Reaper,
19 instances of Synth1,
1 x DensitymkII
1 x FerricTDS
1 x Reaktor 5 (Flatblaster Mastering Ensemble)
3 x iZotope Alloy 2
1 x Sanford Reverb
1 x maDelay
1 x ReaComp
1 x Limiter No6
2 x MuVerb
1 x Guitar Rig 5 (Studio Reverb)

I didn't plan on using any commercial effects; I like the sound of my freeware effects, but I had a lot of problems with bugs/unreliability. Things kept cutting out or not saving reliably, so I gave up in the end.

On the plus side, Synth1 is stable, reliable and CPU-light. Awesome!

Happy New Year!

Cool. Wish it was longer. Looks like there's going to be a lot of great tracks this month.

Hello!
Glad I found the time to write a track for this competition (link to a few pages above). Very glad that this month it was decided to use synth1. I even bought a Computer Music journal article “how to use synth1”. I do not know why, because I without problems have started to use this synth:). It was fun. It is always interesting to work in confined conditions - are beginning to realize that a good song does not necessarily have a ton of synths on your hard drive.
Happy new year to all! Now waiting for a vote!

Happy Holidays and new year everyone!
Here's my entry for OSC #94, I hope you want to dance!

https://soundcloud.com/574x/574x-2017-d ... kvr-osc-94

Synth1 is serious business, as is the Nord Lead. This track averaged 5% cpu on my ol' computer that can barely even handle ozone 7, and rendered the 4 minute track in 14 seconds!

I made 15 Synth1 instruments* for this track (generously automated) and used 6 plugins in total which are all available in the ReaPlugs pack.

I used 2 ReaComp sidechain busses, one for the sub and one for the other non-percussion elements. The mastering chain consists of a ReaComp set like an SSL, a bit of ReaEQ**, and taming the peaks are a JS: Multi Waveshaper*** with a JS: Event Horizon Clipper****.

*mmGhost inspired me to drink coffee and automate midrange bass, and I found that I need far fewer instances if I have a great synth like Synth1, that has many useful automate-able parameters. Halcion similarly emphasized the gradual automation of filters, which was finally an option for me because I prefer to do everything within the synth and there was always a free filter when I needed it in synth1.
**mmGhost also reminded that a couple db in the low mids can clean up a mix, and that the scoop of the OTT is important, which I replicated with two bell boosts of a couple db, both in the upper mids and highs.
***Guenon helped me to conceptualize fm and aliasing percussion design, which is quite evident if you turn on anti-aliasing on the JS: Multi Waveshaper how most of the cymbal and snare/clap high end I made comes from the aliasing frequencies from the noise oscillator.
****z prime and EDGEK8D suggested that I improve my mastering so that the limiting isn't so intrusive, so I isolated the sub and midrange bass with their own patches, sidechaining, and used comp, waveshaping, and soft clipping to manage the peaks.

Thanks, everyone. I really appreciate the feedback and the supportive community.
