How to play multiple instrument tracks at once in live mode

It depends.
First off, though, tracks are containers for Parts - you don't play them with a MIDI Piano. A MIDI Piano emits events and you route events to a target.
MIDI note events contain a Channel number. Are you planning to use this to determine which Instrument sound gets played? If so, you can use the "Project -> Edit MIDI Input Channel Targets" to edit the MIDI Input channel target routing. Set up a rack for each instrument, route each Channel to the appropriate rack. You can also override the incoming MIDI channel from the same edit panel.
Another alternative would be to split the keyboard (lower notes to one Instrument, higher notes to another). For this you need to put all your instruments inside one MuX container and the between the Event Input module for the container and the event input pin for the instrument, insert a Note Key/Vel Filter to limit the range appropriately.
Of course, if you want multiple instruments to sound "stacked", just skip the Note Key/Vel Filter in that last set up.

I was trying to do something similar. I was trying to route Random Midi Arranger using 4 instances of Midi Yoke into MuLab Free. The problem is that only whatever single track is clicked/selected (brought into focus) in Mulab Free would make sound. There is no way to select all four tracks in MuLab free?

MuLab performs a MIDI merge on all incoming MIDI inputs before anything else happens. So you need some way in the event itself to determine the routing. You should be able to use MIDI channel, as above.

Really?! Why?? I'd like to send one of my midi inputs (drum machine output) to a specific instrument track (vst drum module) and another midi input (midi keyboard) to a different instrument track (vst synth). Is there any way to do this? I'd just like to specify which midi input is send to each midi track. This is a very common function of every other DAW / Sequencer I've used.pljones wrote:MuLab performs a MIDI merge on all incoming MIDI inputs before anything else happens. Like I said, yes -- use MIDI Channel number.

Yes, this is a thing that i to is missing .
It would be great to have be able to do this.

When you're recording incoming MIDI events, if you had to know "where they came from", that would be a non-MIDI piece of information (MIDI has no definition of "where an event comes from"). Not necessarily a problem. So you go into the event editor and you list the events and do you see this "where the event came from" information there? What if you unplug a MIDI device? What if you pass your project to someone else with completely different MIDI devices? How is it meant to work then?
That's why remembering "where they came from" isn't really that useful - it's excessively specific to your set up as it as at a particular time.

Ooops. Never mind. I figured out my problem. My solution is to click the Project button and then click "Edit MIDI Input Channel Targets" (located 2nd from the bottom).harryupbabble wrote:I was trying to do something similar.
