When I see these controls with their values:

Image

I interpret them to be saying "35.2% Dry and 64.8% Wet", But that is not the case - they actually mean "35.2% Wet and 64.8% Dry" (or "64.8% Dry and 35.2% Wet"). And increasing the numeric value increases the wet %.

I think that it would be clearer / more intuitive if the parameter were named "Wet/dry". That name would be used throughout the plug-ins, wherever the parameter is mentioned. (I imagine that changing the number around (so that it runs from 100% to 0%) would be much more development work.)

I think the slash is confusing. Maybe some kind of arrow instead of the slash would make it easier to understand.

I understand what your saying but I don't like the suggestion to fix it.
To make it completely foolproof the value should display 2 values. Like this:
90%Wet/10%Dry.

This is how it is in MTurboReverb to show the previous/input output. It makes logical sense that if there is one named parameter, like "wet" it can be displayed with a single percentage. But if there are 2, both values should be displayed.

+1 to all this

That would be even better, but:
(a) such a long string of characters might not fit in the value fields on-screen,
(b) I was going for what I saw as a quick easy change.

I think that scales for Wet/Dry is not quite like Late Reflections In/Out

Code: Select all

0% Previous, 100% In
30% Previous, 100% In
50% Previous, 100% In
70% Previous, 100% In
100% Previous, 100% In
100% Previous, 70% In
100% Previous, 50% In
100% Previous, 30% In
100% Previous, 0% In

0% Wet, 100% Dry
30% Wet, 70% Dry
50% Wet, 50% Dry
70% Wet, 30% Dry
100% Wet, 100% Dry

FWIW ... any time I had a parameter name that went 0% to 100% and was ambiguous, I have always used a labeling convention like "Near <-> Far", denoting lower values tend toward Near and higher toward Far.

Actually, in this case when one says "Wet", it isn't necessary to name the opposite. So, maybe the label should just be "Wet", going from 0% to 100% wet.

Fortunately in the case of Wet/Dry or Dry/Wet, convention is well established and we really never have to think about it. Clockwise knob movement or slider to the right *always* means more wet. I've never seen it done otherwise.

+1 to all this
+2 - but probably a MUCH bigger change than a simple label. Second choice would be since the value goes from Dry to Wet and is a measure of "wetness" that it is "correct" as is.
