iLOK transfer fees for UVI gear?

This seller says that selling one or more UVI instruments to the same buyer, will only mean that one transfer fee has to be paid, in total $25:

viewtopic.php?p=6669238

I think I have asked the question before in here, and have been told that a fee of $25 has to be paid for every license whether or not one or more is sold to the same buyer.

So what is correct?

"Simply use the 'Transfer License' feature from your iLok account. Note that your buyer's account will be asked during this process.

Then, we will be informed by Pace to approve the transfer. Note that you will be charged by Pace to validate it ($25 per license, $50 max fee).

After that, please ask your buyer to contact us, we will move the product(s) to his UVI account.".

That was, however, regarding sample libraries, their policy regarding their other products might be different.

So if you sell 2 you pay $50 but if you sell 3 or more it's still just $50?

Post

I believe so. I've seen that $50 max thing in the used sales threads here where people are selling multiple single titles in a package eg a few soundtoys plug-ins:

from https://www.ilok.com/#!faq >> your licenses:
How do I transfer licenses to another user?
There are three ways to transfer a license. When transferring a license, you will be asked to confirm your account information. Be careful when entering the destination User ID as transfers are irreversible. Note that a $US25 fee per license or bundle (locked group) applies for transferring licenses to another iLok.com account, but each License Transfer order has a maximum charge of $US50.

OK, thanks for the info.

So the max fee is $50

So selling one or two licenses plugs to the same buyer doesn't really make a difference, as the fee will be $25 for one, and $50 for two

But selling three or four, or five or more to the same buyer, the fee will stay at $50 still. That is where the benefit lies in selling to the same buyer ?

What I know is that selling two or more for the same person (including bundles as well) are all $50 max. At least this is what the support answered me when I tried to sell some Air and UVI instruments together.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Wow that's steep. :o Money for old rope. Esp when you consider that a lot of the better quality audio vendors (NI, Toontrack, etc) transfer licenses as a free service for their customers - all credit to them for that.

This is the problem with using an outside company to do your licensing. They have to make their money somehow. And it costs them time to transfer the license from one account to the other.

And this is probably why I don't bother selling old stuff. Unless it is more than a few hundred, the time and hassle is not really worth it. And the only things I own that are valuable, I still use.

Sure thing, but compare that with the months involved in developing, marketing and supporting a VST which might sell for $100 whilst Pace charge $50 for two license transfer checks which take a matter of minutes. And that's after they've already charged every Air, Eventide, Soundtoys, etc customer a price for an iLok device (not cheap) and charged all their sw vendors a license fee (annual?) for injecting Pace code into each application.

Hmm... I'm off to buy some shares. :clown:

LOL! Yes, but you have to consider all that time they have to pay someone to sit around waiting for something to do......

And? It is ridiculous that a product that sells for $100 (or less) would cost $25 to transfer. There should be a sliding scale on these things.

i wonder how much of it covers the insurance they carry in case they mess up? no, wait, they will probably tell you it was your fault for letting your iLok account get hacked. Nevermind.... :dog:

My need to buy something new is being taxed. It is not so bad when I "buy" free stuff or cheap stuff. But with no sales? I might actually have to make some music.. :D

Though it will have to wait until either my new computer build is fully loaded or my laptop gets back from the repair shop. :(

I can see why a developer might be happy to have those higher fees there if they believe that the fees might put people off selling/buying used and push them towards buying new, putting money in the developers pocket. It could be useful to then point to that external agent and blame them for the fees.

but it's not just ilok that charge fees like this - xfer do, tone2 do etc, and at least the product doesn't go NFR with an iLok transfer.
