Mulab 6 - select between different compositions?

I remeber back in earlier Mulab versions like v3, you could right click on the timeline and create/select/switch between different compositions, each of which have their own timeline/tracks.

So I could create my sequences in one, and then use another one for arranging the sequences.

I loaded one of my old projects created in older Mulabs, into v6
And it seems this can no longer be done? I've tried everything but can't seem to find a way to do this.

I can see from choosing sequences in v6, that the older structure of the project with the 2 different compositions, with their own sequences is still there, but I can't seem to switch/choose between them...?

Open the first project.
In MuLab, use Project->(open something) to open the second project.
At the prompt, "Open project into..." select "Open Extra Project".

Then you should have the two projects open concurrently. You should be able to switch between them as with an other two windows. Copy/paste between project works okay (e.g. copy a part, paste into the other project, it asks if you want the part's modules copied). You also get prompted "Close" when closing a project except for the last window which says "Quit".

Thanks, but that's not really the same thing, as you now have 2 different projects.
Whereas before Mulab allowed you to have a lot of different compositions within one project and you could right click, select between them. Each with their own mixers/parts/sequences etc

A bit like a scratch pad in Studio One v3 :)

I see when you edit the keyboard shortcuts, you can have "create new composition" and "select composition" as one of the functions.
Which is not set by default, and why is there no button on the screen, or context menu for doing such?
Older versions had the right click context menu for doing that....

Indeed in earlier versions of MuLab there was the option to have multiple compositions within a single project. Some versions ago this has been subtly deprecated though for a conceptual issue i foresaw (something i'll rethink soon again in the M7 context), but in order to maintain compatibility with existing projects the Select Previous/Next Composition functions are still available via a shortcut. Don't know where you saw the "Create New Composition" function? It should not be available in M6.

"add new composition" is in there in the shortcut functions

Honestly to me, this is a major draw of Mulab!
It's my primary workflow - use one composition to create my basic track beds, loops and ideas.
And then use another composition to arrange these parts to create a song.
It's how I did it back in my Amiga Music X days - except in Music X, you could have sequences and parts nested inside other parts, inside more parts

Since then, there has not been many sequencers/DAW that have this way of working
Only Digital Performer and recently Studio One v3 with it's scratch pads.
You should be making a bigger deal out of this IMO

I see, thanks. The availability of this function should be considered as a bug.

I agree.

Hi. long time user back to the LUNA days here, which I used on some of the tracks I produced on "chiptune" rapper Random's "Mega Ran 10" project a few years back, I think much time after MuLab had already been out awhile. I'm back to working on music after a hiatus, and the last version of MuLab I have is 5. So it takes me some time to catch up since I guess I get so used to one version, but anyways...

I'm bumping this particular discussion up because, yes, I am now interested in getting the latest version now but what I'm interested in mainly is if there is now a "composition arranger" type timeline, I guess as alluded in this very thread or this other old thread.

So to distill what I'm looking for simply, if it has not been done in these other threads is this:

Say I have multiple compositions in one project, as I can currently do in in Mu.Lab 5. Let's call each respective composition Comp1, Comp2, Comp3, and Comp4.

Does the latest version have a feature where I can then arrange these compositions simply, say, just by arranging on on a timeline, list or whatever for example: |Comp1| |Comp4| |Comp2| |Comp1| (...) And it plays it in this order or however order they are arranged?

Or something similar?

I was able to play around with a mini-workstation on my Amazon Kindle and it had this very feature, and thought that if MuLab could do it, it'd be even more great for how I use it than it already is.

Anyway, I'm guessing that's what this thread and the other one had been alluding to.

So yeah, has something along these lines been implemented for the latest version?

Anyway, so awesome that MuLab continues to live and grow. Regardless, already the new version looks so much cooler to me than what I have now, so I might be downloading anyway!

But thanks for any help you can give in answering my query and please forgive me if this has already been answered elsewhere, but I could not easily find the answer via my search.

The feature you're pointing at is not yet there but i'm looking forward to it to add it. Can't yet give a time estimation on it, but hopefully in 2017.
