Based on this, it is likely they won't release 12 until Fall 2018. Speaking of Komplete - Komplete Elements is on sale for $19.99 at Musician's Friend Stupid Deal of the Day. Not sure it has much, but I wonder if it gets you in the door to getting a crossgrade price.

Nevermind. I just checked their site. Elements does nothing to help you upgrade.

"REAKTOR 5 PLAYER requires a 32-bit compatible environment to operate under 64-bit versions of Windows XP / Vista / Windows 7"
Huh ? Does that mean there is no 64 bit version that runs under Win 7 ?

Have bought most of my software from plugin boutique over the last few years, generally found them excellent in terms of pricing and service, but noticed recently that some of their "new" offers just seem to be ones that expired, disappeared off the list for a few days and then return with the offer extended for a further few weeks, or months even. Their Sunriser offer seems to have run from 07/16 and won't end until 31/01.
It's gotten to the point where I start to wonder why Air, Sonivox, Waves and Izotope don't just set their RRP to the sale price given that they seem to be discounted way more often than they're sold for full price.

The same reason companies like DFS (sofas) in the UK almost constantly have sales - it makes buyers feel warm and fuzzy if they see a high RRP next to their low buy price.shonky wrote:It's gotten to the point where I start to wonder why Air, Sonivox, Waves and Izotope don't just set their RRP to the sale price given that they seem to be discounted way more often than they're sold for full price.

And probably why you never find anyone that's bought a sofa from DFS at RRP. People love to feel like they've got a bargain even when, technically speaking, it's a "bargain" 11 months out of 12OneOfManyPauls wrote:The same reason companies like DFS (sofas) in the UK almost constantly have sales - it makes buyers feel warm and fuzzy if they see a high RRP next to their low buy price.shonky wrote:It's gotten to the point where I start to wonder why Air, Sonivox, Waves and Izotope don't just set their RRP to the sale price given that they seem to be discounted way more often than they're sold for full price.

That will suck because I don't love Kontakt enough to pay for it twice, but, it makes sense. I bet many people will do that. I paid for R6 outside of Kontakt, I think my arm was pulling my wallet out before my mind had the chance to reason whether or not I should buy it or wait.dzilizzi wrote:Based on this, it is likely they won't release 12 until Fall 2018. I totally agree with you. They should just do K11 with Kontakt 6 and call it K12. This way you do not end up with two copies of Kantakt 6. The Komplete owners are their true fan club so why abuse them? For the money? Or if you purchase Kontakt 6 then when Komplete 12 is released give theme a discount. It's only fare!ghettosynth wrote:That will suck because I don't love Kontakt enough to pay for it twice, but, it makes sense. I bet many people will do that. In previous times was Kontakt released alone and later included in a Komplete package?

Well, what they should do is simply send everything that they make to me as it comes out just because I look great in a bikini. But, that's some alternate universe that only exists in my dreams. Coming down to reality, I'm saying that I think from a business point of view it makes sense to release your flagship product upgrades outside of your major bundle upgrades. You will get additional cash from early adopters. The only business question that's really relevant here is what impact that choice has on later upgrades.Kalamata Kid wrote: I totally agree with you. I'm a good example, in fact. I bought R6 because I had to have it the day that I found out about it. So that diminishes the value of K11 for me and has served to break my cycle of odd numbered upgrades. Had they delayed R6 to K11, I would have purchased the K11 upgrade on the spot.
Of course, then I probably would have waited for K13 before upgrading again.

Since I do not have an upgrade path to Kontakt 6 I will have to buy it at full price. Not me! Komplete 11 with Kontakt 5 is not an upgrade path as far as I know. So I will be pissed off but I will wait for K12. I certainly hate investing the time to in negotiating and selling anything from Kontakt 6 to my sofa or stove.ghettosynth wrote:Well, what they should do is simply send everything that they make to me as it comes out just because I look great in a bikini. I have the cinematic percussion. I demoed the big bang drums and also the tony coleman drums. They all sound fine, I suppose. I have the cinematic drums because I find that their silly little live quantizer gives me some interesting rhythms for percussion on certain settings. I paid about $12 for it with some virtual cash from plugin boutique.GreyLion wrote:Not bad, Numanoid! I tracked around some after you listed this, and it looks like JRR is doing pretty much the same price after discount.
Also have Big Band Cinematic for around $16. which I'm maybe a little more interested in, if it's good.
https://www.jrrshop.com/sonivox-big-ban ... percussion
Anybody have experience with either of these for the discussion thread?
If you use a lot of acoustic drums then I think that their drumkits are probably worth it ($15) to get a different flavor. Of the two I preferred the sound of the tony colemann drums. I didn't think that their live quantizer worked for shit on any kind of real drum rhythms. Had I not purchased big bang cinematic and 88 grand I probably would have picked up the bundle. There just isn't enough in there now for me to justify the additional price and it's way too much hassle to sell cheap ilok shit on the used market.
In the end though I don't use full acoustic kits enough to spend even $10 on another one. I do like one of the singles that is in the bundle, can't think of the name at the moment and I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm waiting for a $1 sale on that.
For reference I have Komplete Standard so I have the 60s Drummer, Studio Drummer, and also the free DrumMica from Sennheiser. I also have all of the AIR drums in Stryke, and the same dozen or more things that anyone with more than a couple of DAWs in a software studio is going to have.

Thanks, ghettosynth!
Yeah, I have way too many drum samples and plugs to justify buying any more. But the GAS doesn't care...
I watched a few vids of the Big Bang and Cinematic drums this evening, and they don't seem to add much to what I already have. Still contemplating the Tony Coleman, though. I think I need to get out the last decade's mindset and quit equating 'lots of gigabytes' with 'lots of value'.

And it's definitely a mindset problem. We honor value, but don't honor the concept of waste.
It's a prioritization and habit problem.

Yep! I've been fooling around with this stuff long enough to have watched it evolve from a one GB sample set being huge, to 100 GB being, well, pretty normal after all the add-in packs and such.
FWIW, I went ahead and got the Tony Coleman set for $17 at JRR. Pro Tools Expert does a video review of them that convinced me that it's a good value *for me* as a cheap, good-sounding, easy-to-use, low-on-CPU plug for basic rock and blues. Emphasis on the easy-to-use, I think. I've got AD2 and GEIST, for instance, and can get lost inside their power. Not to mention dealing with MIDI mapping b.s. This would just be plug and go, and that's appealing.
I think the main hesitation I have with Sonivox is that they seem to have a rep, here and elsewhere on-line, for plugs that can be unpredictably sub-par and often unstable.
