the question is, an overpriced daw or an overpriced computer... remains to be seennortle wrote:I really dont like to disagree all the time but to use logic you have to buy an overpriced computer from logics developer.dnbhallifax wrote:I only use Live for basic production, sound design, and pattern based music... It isn't my main DAW or where I do most of my composing, Logic is. And it's $199 all in, and all in with Alchemy which bar none no other DAW can touch now that its native to Logic...nortle wrote: Then go, grab Ableton 10 and wait 4 years for 11 and everything is fine. As far as I can see its abletons sampler that is most significant. Then link, some max devices . Live 9 was released spring 2013. That features (except push updates) could be delivered with 9 right from start. So thats how you want it?
I can hang on L9 for my needs and do the bulk of my work in Logic and I'm a happy camper... I liked that Bitwig was an underdog of sorts with a similar workflow, but I don't see this as an underdog move at all...

Or you can already own a 7 year old machine that runs it just fine.nortle wrote:dnbhallifax wrote: I really dont like to disagree all the time but to use logic you have to buy an overpriced computer from logics developer.

And right after that they will deliver what was promised to make you pay againlentferj wrote:The decision for now (or in Feb) is only about spending €169 on what 2.0 delivers. And then I have one year to see if Bitwig goes on to deliver as they promised.. if not - no renewal. Period. So I will keep my complaining for february or march next year.

This is disconcerting.rod_zero wrote:With Apple anual updates to their OS which break everything you will be surely paying the anual "update" to BW just to keep it working in macOS.

Does this mean that if your version does not support a new OS you have to either use an older OS or pay the upgrade price? As rod_zero noted, MacOS is updated every year.dom@bitwig wrote:It is important to note that it is not a yearly fee or subscription!lataille wrote:This is just ridiculous though, honestly.
With as much time as I've invested into this program, I never would have even considered it to begin with if I knew there was going to be a yearly fee slapped onto it. I can't even begin to describe how stupid of an idea this is.
You buy a full license, and on top of that you get 12 months of free upgrades, even if those are major version number upgrades. After those 12 months, you get to keep you license and you can use it as long as you want and renew your license if we introduce a feature you are interested in.
Cheers,
Dom

Wait for it... Didn't anyone tell you that you shouldn't expect to be allowed to update your OS??? Then someone will suggest you switch to Linux as the answer to Bitwig's Subscription... Sorry 'Pricing' Model, Because we all know how user friendly Linux is to the Audio Producer market (Working vst's anyone???).rod_zero wrote:With Apple anual updates to their OS which break everything you will be surely paying the anual "update" to BW just to keep it working in macOS.

Yes, if you have 2.9 and you decide to update Mac OS and time expire and only 3.0 work for the new Mac OS you're doomed... or, simply don't update your Mac OS. But that's not the only problem... what about soundcards etc... new stuff that needs new Bitwig versions?

Lets be honest. There will be no major updates in the year. Its been 4 years since version 1 and all minor dot updates - fixes. Slow! ok some 'major' ones but those are given in a DAW. Ive uninstalled bitwig. Overrated. If you want modular go with Mux. I was an early adopter with a badge - no sure why they gave a badge out.

There is not much wrong with the license model but it is way to overpriced.
I have enjoyed Bitwig now for 3 years for 300 euro.
That is 100 euro a year. For updates you are now charging 60% more then the original price.
Updates should be cheaper then the product it self.
I was expecting 100 euro for the V2 update. And that the next paid update should take at least 2 years.
So 50 euro a year seems fair to me. With the current price I will probably buy it once every 3 years if I don't run away to the next best DAW in the meantime...

And the PC white screen of death taking over a year to fix... That's BOTH major Audio platforms updates being turned into liabilities... It's just unacceptable.brownerthanu wrote:Does this mean that if your version does not support a new OS you have to either use an older OS or pay the upgrade price? One more of my trusted software companies tries this scam and I'm gonna seriously look at dedicated hardware options... Akai have finally made an mpc with recording and flexible expandable memory options. And they can't charge me a subscription for that.

Why are people comparing this to Adobe and subscription models? In a subscription model, when you stop paying you lose access to the program and cannot use any version of it until you start paying again.
That is simply not the case here. You buy it, you use it, you can keep using it. With adobe, when you stop paying the subscription, you literally cannot open the software you were previously paying for. That's NOT THE SAME AS THIS, GET IT? The license has to do with access to updates and upgrades. People are freaking out acting like this is the adobe model. It isn't.
Further opinions on what it IS are, of course, valid -- but let's at least get straight what it really is.

I was in the supposition I'd pay €99 for the v2 update and I just would have upgraded. That simple.
I never make mistakes; I just blame others.

LOL people normalizing companies charging for maintenance updates that were previously granted for your original/upgrade cost,
