I'm not a fan of subscription based stuff myself. But if it's worth it to me, I can make an exception. So far, it is definitely looking that way.norv wrote:Love Bitwig but HATE HATE HATE subscriptions.

Okay, I'm a Bitwig fan, and don't mind an upgrade fee, but I'm not a fan of "update subscriptions". It seems as if you're being charged up front and asked to rely on the honesty of the company to deliver on the promise. Though I trust Bitwig to deliver as fast as they can, it's not the way I do business in most areas of my life, and in general it just doesn't sit well with me. I can certainly understand why it doesn't appeal to others.
I'm inclined to give Bitwig the benefit of the doubt on most things. It's a massively ambitious and complex project. Creative tool, live performance tool, and traditional recording/sequencing DAW built from scratch that's completely modular and supports Windows, OS X, and Linux? I mean wow. Anyone who's the least familiar with software development knows that's frickin' crazy. I have admiration simply for the attempt.
Then to wrap it all up in an interface that to me is heads above anything else out there and supports both traditional and touch devices...
$170 for 2.0 I can wrap my head around, but $170 (US) a year for renewing updates not only seems expensive, it is. Pro Tools and Cakewalk are only $99 and while I think Bitwig is already or eventually will be the better program, I think that is a very psychologically challenging figure for may users and buyers. Especially for existing users, as Bitwig originally shipped a program that was, to be polite, not quite ready for prime time in many aspects. There's a bit of a trust issue there as you can tell from many of the posts here. Then again, if you add it all up, and compare the total with the price of other DAWs...
I'm actually surprised they talked about a new license scheme. Not the greatest PR move I've ever seen, but on the plus side, only honest people do stuff like this. Most would tease and hook you, then break the bad news later.
All that aside, I really love the program and 2.0 looks to be a great improvement. Can't wait to kick the tires.

Now that I've slept over night, I start to think that this new model is actually quite nice. But the price is horribly wrong. Maybe they could do the same than Reaper does and collect two different payments? Like 50€/year for hobbyists and that 159€/year for pro license if you make money with it. You'd get a full software though no matter which license type you had. Only difference that with pro license you'd have some value services like faster support maybe. And of course that text to on top of the screen that tells which type of license is it

Seriously enough with the "subscription model" non sense. This thread is called 2.0 so maybe we should talk a little more about 2.0 and it's new features, don't you agree?
I will start myself,I am sure I have tons of questions as everyone else but I will try to be brief as a start..
-Anyone knows if there was a change in regard to the "groove pool" or anything related to that matter?locking a specific groove to all tracks and not just the regular shuffle?
-Also did they do anything worth mentioning in the piano roll?
Peace

Personally I never cared much about this, but I remember some quite heated discussions about it.

Toby, putting it this way makes it more real and gives you an insight of what's being put on the table all together yet there are still more to be reveiled I believe(i hope)toby wrote:Absolutely, not much discussion going regarding the new features which look absolutely amazing to me. Some ppl want all the bells and whistles in 2.0 which I can understand but it's not about that,it's about workflow, strong and intuitive workflow.
What I like about bitwig is that it's getting there, slowly but surely and their new update plan that everyone is complaining about is and will probably be our key to having constant feature add ons in a reasonable time frame.
If anyone had the luxury to try the alpha, pls share with us some thoughts about the other little features and or enhancement added in 2.0 that didn't show in the promo video.
Peace

The problem is that there isn't really much in 2.0 to talk about except the fact that they are making BWS one of the most expensive DAWs in the universe, without delivering on any of the promises they made for 2.0.sonson5 wrote:Seriously enough with the "subscription model" non sense. First feeling: SLAP IN MY FACE WITH A FISH!
First thought: Did they upgrade their dev team as well or do I pay for more "undo-bugs"?
Second thought: Can I use now my hardware without all that f*cking sync-trouble I had with BW 1.x?
I have to think more....

the modular system is there, every device can be extended with modular slots, wich then can also be cross modulated. So just because there is no grafical wiring YET, everything is in place.

And the fact that this stuff has been asked since 2014 and they have obviously thought that these are such a big features that they CAN'T be released before 2.0 and so for, they sat over these like a cat guarding its treasure.sonson5 wrote: - spectrum analyzer upgrade

Ridiculous.
