I'm trying to see this from both sides of view. From the development point of view, it is also not technically feasible to keep backporting bugfixes to every previously released version to keep everyone happy.

I think a better way to handle this is:

Freeze the minor version released at the end of update period, but still allow for hotfixes for that minor version released after the end of the period.

For example: If at the end of my 12 months, I'm at version 2.3.2. I should still be entitled to get all the 2.3.x releases (supposedly all the hotfixes within that minor version) after that, but not 2.4.x.

This, I think, will at least eases some bugfix anxiety for propective upgraders.
Agreed. This would make the most sense. Though, this could be what's actually in store. If indeed the core is modular, plus all of Bitwig's devices, etc., then patching is likely module-level as well. Further, these modules would have respective versions and license attributes.

Btw, as you know, Bitwig already has a "package Manager". The means to do all of this is already there.

The next thing we may see is 'Premium Devices'! ... Whatever may come, please don't turn Bitwig into an 'App Store'!

I don't mind the yearly fee at all - yet this is a great idea.
Have you contacted Bitwig via their website about this? Maybe they'll consider it.

Cash is key. I'm not against the idea. Bitwig might not have survived if they continued under thier current model. Don't take it personally.

This license model is stupid. I'm supposed to pay blindly, based on hope that they will release useful new features in the next 12 month?

No, you are paying for a perpetual license of what is currently in the software at the time of purchase. 12 months of upgrades is included free. So if you like whats in the software, buy it and enjoy the upgrades.. if not, wait it out and see if they add anything you like.

Why not personal? "You only pay for upgrades, updates are free"

thats what i paid for! I paid for that model when paying for bitwig. I choose bitwig in belief off their model and how everything was promised. Letting them run over their customers and change how they please might be their move. But its not what their customers paid for before these news. They payed for what bitwig was in their old price model and priceplan. If letting a company change payment plan however they please then you really cant trust what you pay for. My 2 cents.

It might sell as upgrade but you pay for 12 months update/upgrades. You really dont pay for v2.0 you pay for the mew modell and get bitwigs lates version with it. Thats the new modell! All updates upgrades features 12 months a time for 169 usd

Please don't take it personally but you paid only for the software in its current state. There is a major update now that introduces a lot of stuff that was requested for years. It costs 150€ to upgrade from your version.

If you don't like what's introduced in 2.0, don't pay for it. You're free to use the software you paid for as long as you want to.
If in a year or two (or maybe even a month or two) something is introduced that you're interested in - try the demo and upgrade then.

I can understand that you want online collaboration and an open modulation system - so do I. Just wait until these things are introduced and test and buy then.
For me, the update is worth it, but everyone has to decide that for himself.

Dude i didnt pay for a license! I choosed a software baised on old priceplans and promises. So i paid for license to use the software and What they said how things are. Why would i not take it personal as i spent morny on lies? Dude are you tripping

To be honest from my perspective a fair proportion of the things in the version 2 should have been in version 1.

The new modulation system is I guess a version 2 thing but is much watered down from the full modular environment to make your own devices that has always been promised.

So basically as far as I'm concerned the upgrade price is far too much, the model of moving to having to pay for bug fixes for me is also a hard pill to swallow. I stopped using Pro Tools and Waves for this reason and I guess it's now the same for Bitwig.

Bitwig I guess are gambling that the extra revenue gained from this model with outweigh the loss of customers, I wish them the best of luck but it's not for me.

Does it have to do with online collaburation and sevrer maintance or why would you change payment? I belive everybody thinks you guys disslike this. Please tell us why.
One of the main reasons is that we now can introduce bigger features a lot more often with small updates instead of collecting and holding them back for major releases like a 2.0 or a 3.0 - it might worry some when reading this, but i'm totally looking forward to it as it actually is a nice change because it will allow us to grow Bitwig Studio on a way more regular basis and introduce exciting stuff a lot more often and frequently.
Is there such a big feature you were holding back for years in 2.0?

Alright then, obviously you're not interested in discussing things like grown-ups, you're just here to rant.
Good to know, have a nice day.

No im not here to discuss im actually just here to release some steam because this new plan really sucks and is not what i was informed when starting to use bitwig. They changed their game and all you puppets just accept lol but we wont have an argument because argument is about opening up to other persons and have open mind! I dont have an open mind about this.

Post

Just accept that some of us have no problem with the new plan and please can you stop repeating the same s*** over and over again!
