Difference is: I could stay with Live 9 for the rest of my muscial life because it has everything I need for my aims. After all its version 9, not one.SpaceTraffic wrote:How can you be sure Ableton 10 doesn't go Adobe?Rappo Clappo wrote:Hmmm.. already was considering Ableton, this pushed me over the edge.
With Bitwig 1 now I don't even have fades unless I pay 159 euros...
Bottom line: Never ever buy version 1 software...

Speaking of which, in the run up to 2.0 I remember all the rabid fanboys and wishful thinkers answering any and all complaints about the lack of communication with "They're not announcing their plans or details because they have TOP SECRET AMAZING FEATURES that their competitors CAN'T WAIT TO STEAL!!!!!!!!!!!"
...and what do we actually get with 2.0? The most basic shit like effects, crossfades and other minor features that should have been there ages ago...and that's it. Truly ahead of the curve.

Well, you gotta admit; it looks futuristic

So... I bought Bitwig 6 months ago, will I get a free upgrade to 2.0 or do I have to pay again?

Meh, I kinda feel cheated with the free upgrade that is added to current Bitwig purchases. Not to mention the upgrade price is way over the top, it's almost as much as I paid for the box locally. I don't see myself upgrading any time soon.

as far as i understood them and dom here now, its almost the same anyway. we pay the stealth-sub, but get all updates within one year no matter which or how high the release-number is. heavily depending on what they release then. could be only bugfixes until e.g. 2.3.15 or so (just to resume our experience so far. no offense^^), could be a major update. if there wouldnt be the word "almost"^^.xx JPRacer xx wrote:I have no problem with the current model but I'd prefer that one too.anttimaatteri wrote:it would have been the far better option to make the license model depending on release numbers (similar to renoise), buying the release 1.3.x gives u granted update til 2.3.x asf...
with other words: buying development time formerly known as kickstarter. or am i totally wrong?
well. at least i dont think bitwig is goin to screw people up, like many posts here intend to claim. thats the least thing theyll do, unless they went totally crazy haha.

Ok Bitwig Team, nice update, terrible license model!
Better to fix all bugs for a main release for free and not paying for a next year with same bugs.
Is this model legal in Germany?
Ableton Link or similar?!
Better scene handling with external controllers for live performance?!
Different Midi Channels for one Midi Input?!
Bouncing without interrupt sound?!

After your 12 months is over you can keep the software and still use it. How is that a subscription? I guess you are subscribed to getting updates but not using the software. That is normal in all DAWs.
I will say the upgrade price is a bit steep though. Most other DAWs are lower in price to upgrade on big releases.
I will still gladly support though. I have used bitwig exclusively since 1.0 and I love it.
2.0 looks great on paper. Here's to hoping its rock solid with minimal bugs.
Grats to the BW team for the announcement!

With same bugs! When i buying a car with errors i get implied warranty in germany. So trouble but at the end i get a 100% functional car. .. yes i know, not really the same boat but hey, not user friendly!owensands wrote:After your 12 months is over you can keep the software and still use it.

I agree. I don't understand all of the vitriol, and don't see how what they propose is any different than what goes on now for most other software. You buy a version, you get updates, a new version comes out, you pay (if you want it). We've all lived with that model for years.owensands wrote:After your 12 months is over you can keep the software and still use it. How is that a subscription? Someone suggested earlier basing the "subscription period" on release numbers, i.e., buy version 1.3 and get free updates through version 2.3. (Or better, through version all version 2 releases, so if I buy version 1.x, I know I will receive all updates in version 2 and the next paid upgrade will be for version 3.) Maybe that model would provide the revenue (which Bitwig needs and should have) and mollify the critics.
As to the price, a little steep for sure, but honestly, whatever price they would have announced there would be folks yapping away about it.
The amount of negativity and attitudes of implied and explicit entitlement on display is amazing.

I just love the notion we're still somehow in beta. At v1.3 BWS is, on my system, more stable than Live is at 9.7.

I don't think bugs will last for 12 months. The only bugs that could come up are generally related to latest features. If (for example) 2.3.3 introduced new features and bugs and your 12 months period is over, just use the latest stable version, like 2.3.1.n0j0e wrote:With same bugs!
