Lol, very funny. Better audio editing, better midi editing, thriving community and easy to find resources. Yet not as good as Bitwig.craigtumps wrote:Anyway FL isn't as good as Bitwig IMO and they've had 12 versions to get it right.

I was undecided about the price for a few hours, but now after thinking about it... had it been US100$ or less I would have done it almost without thinking. 159Euro though (and with the promise of that every year) has me on the verge of selling my license.
I (along with many others) would like to see a response from the devs as to why Bitwig is now the most expensive DAW going around. They have mentioned they can show us some reasoning as to why they did this.
Well?
Please enlighten us, We are waiting
That added to the fact that they have been promising features for now 3 or 4 years that are still to make it into the software give me a real bad feeling about this.
ahh what a pity it was such a promising beginning.

I think I have found my direction on this. I am going to wait 6 months and then decide if I will update Bitwig if the advancements in the software justify the expense.
I was thinking to sell it and look for a second hand copy of Ableton Standard but I'll hold off. I can use this version as is for now.
If Bitwig decided to give a $50 EU discount to encourage sales during a time limited promotional period bringing the upgrade cost to $119 EUs I'd take the leap of faith now but for the moment I am staying put.

That would have been reasonable and in line with the competition, and they would have avoided all this shitstorm completely while still ensuring annual revenue. It's not the model, it's the price.digitalfix wrote:I wonder if anyone here would be happier if it was 2 years of updates rather than 1?

I don't really care that much about the 'model' - I'm just bothered by the fact that even the update is priced out of my reach and to have to pay that amount every year if I want an updated version is too much. Usine does have a similar model but they at least have the decency to have a reasonable yearly update price. For me that is the bigger stumbling block - even if they kept the bigger amount for the whole version update and charged a much more affordable amount for yearly point updates (sort of like WUP) I think a lot of people would be happier.

So what's with running a business anyways ? Other software companies are not looking for profits, they are not planning their feature releases ?Andrey Marchenko wrote:Are you really think that they can't count? You know what is critical mass? If you are against businesses as a social stance, then there's the Open Source Ardour DAW for recording and mixing.

Well said. Longterm business models focus on growth. Sounds like they're having money problems since it's way too early to put a policy like this in place.

Man, this whole deal is a toughie. I'm kind of stuck between thinking Bitwig is one hell of a project with stunning potential and not wanting to see it die for lack of funds, and sympathizing with loyal users, many of whom have put up with a hell of a lot in the way of bugs and curious shortcomings. Some of which still exist as of 1.3.15.
Saying the exact same thing another way, I don't think this upgrade fee and new model are exactly fair to long-timers, but then again, I don't want to see them or anyone else lose out on what Bitwig can be because the company folds.
I have no real answer, but I will say that Bitwig might've employed a bit more empathy as regards the new license model announcement.

Personus pulled this off with Studio One...craigtumps wrote:In a short space of time they have created from scratch a DAW that already competes with the big majors that are at version 10.
If Bitwig were smart they'd just charge a little more for the full version and have less featured tiered versions for reasonable prices to bring in new customers. It's a short term business model that will ultimately sink their ship...

Really I can not believe what people are talking here. Its 169$ per year... People are spending a lot more for useless stuff and this is the most innovative DAW on the market.. Bitwig is so cpu efficient, its a dream.. For software companies its a strange situation .. Every $ is too much for the people.. Maybe then they are not the right customers if mamas pocket money is the maximum price of a DAW.dom@bitwig wrote:Nah, that's no confirmation, i'm not Trump
And be assured we read what users are writing here. We knew it would let to confusion and maybe even to concerns and we take it seriously. And we think we can proof that this is the better model, else we would not have done the change.
Cheers,
Dom

How about a Reaper style license ?
If you earn money from Bitwig full price, If you don't make money half price.
If the bitwig team can't trust the honesty of it's users then limit the amount of tracks on the half price version to accommodate the hobbyist.

No, the consensus is that $99 is just right. Maybe you should read through the whole thread... Hilarious dude. I compose and produce for a living. I can afford this no problem, but I won't pay it because it's the most expensive model on the market. PT is arguable less expensive if you don't cancel your subscription... It's about ethics and cost per feature in competitive products... And their condescending attitude aint helping much either...nortle wrote:Every $ is too much for the people.. My thoughts exactly. Though my limit is that 99€ and not an euro over it. I already have Reason and Reaper so Bitwig is only an inspiration tool that can be easily replaced by Ableton or FLStudio (or then I just won't get either). I just happen to like BWS more than Ableton or FLS so I'd really like to continue using it.Scotty wrote:I think I have found my direction on this. And as much as I love BWS, they should really know that it's not irreplaceable. It's only a tool. Great tool, but not irreplaceable.
