The real Deal here . Peoples Pay here for a stable 1 version with Basic functional stuff.
stable enough to use it fully (both on stage and on composition) . but it never happened.
then here it is . New crazy inspiring functionality but with certainly all this old bug and unworking correctly stuff.
when could i select easily a midi channel for a midi track ? when could i plug 3 controllers without loosing one ?
I prefer to wait . All this new stuff for Bitwig 2 seems really inspiring, but how many time would it take to correct all the new bugs ? ... and the old ones ?... 1 year ? 2 ? before having a reliable version ?
Live is also a buggy application but hopefully basic functionality works fully . Then i get back to live for the moment . I will continue to look at bitwig forum every day and test the demo of the V2 .
Thanks for all your hard work , for inspiring us , really . but i hope you get back in fundamentals stuff soon enough and correct this basics problems as soon as it is possible. It's a priority for me now on Bitwig.
PS : Why people make it a drama ? They does not put a knife on your throat . You can refuse or accept it .

I am one of those that when I first tried Bitwid v1 and saw all the bugs I decided to step down and let the DAW mature before I get into it. I had previous experience with Live working with work arounds for a long time before I was happy with latest versions and I didn't want to repeat the same story. I decided to have a look again in version 2 or even in version 3 if I was still not happy with it. I am visiting the forums once in a while to see how the DAW development is going and I was a bit sad to see that it was progressing quite slowly. Something was telling me to hold off and even though developers seem quite close to the userbase, I wasn't yet convinced about their loyalty. Bitwig seem to be a small team with not so many resources, which is a pitty considering the potential of the software.
Anyway after the announce of this new licencing model I am glad I did. In my mind Bitwig 2 should be a FREE update for all the suffering and trouble many users have gone through in vesion 1. It seemed to me v1 users were in some kind of paying beta or something. Now the program is the most expensive DAW on the market just like that having lots of potential of course but right night not justifing the price. I get that a few companies have started using this licencing model but a price of 99 euros would be much more resonable. Even though, as I said Bitwig 2 should be free as a "thank you" to the existong userbase!
I just hope that it's not because Bitwig are desperate for income right now because it seems that they might lose a lot of the userbase and the type of users that are going to lose might be the ones who actually participate more in the community and have a good ethos. And that's because the new licensing model doesn't communicate the right ethos at all.
I will keep monitoring the forums once in a while and I hope the issue will be resolved in the best possible way.

I'm not bothering upgrading, not until they have a bigger enough update in 6 months
I think they would have lots renewals more frequently if it was 99 euro a year
I also would have upgraded straight away if they had a own controller like push to release, not to keen on any of the controller scripts around. They just seem unfinished

I also find it surprising to have a new licensing model when the original 2.0, the fully modular network enabled one (apparently vaporware) was announced over 3 years ago... I mean talk about being misled, you buy a 1.0 license expecting this bright future, and instead you get the privilege of paying more for a different product.

...at the very least this indicates that you're really taking a huge gamble signing up for a subscription ... based on history, you won't even get the teased features or even stability, especially in the calendar year, more like multiple years.. I really cannot understand how they can float this given past experience

Hm, how would that work for software that doesn't offer a level to buy lifetime upgrades? (In the case of Bitwig the company only sells this one program, so either lifetime upgrades (the 100% you work towards with "rent to own") would have to be very expensive or they would have to completely change their model, so the main program just becomes a "by-product". Or it isn't lifetime upgrades but just a perpetual license for the version that was current when you payed the last/first "rate" (e.g. the latter is how e.g. Jetbrains does it - there you don't get a perpetual license for the last version you rented but the first one.)forestrip wrote:BITWIG - do you hear me?

Would certainly be nice for people who only use the program very infrequently (but then for a longer time en-bloc). If you use it for two days per month it would still be 160€ per year though... so perhaps rent-per-day-to-own?
Or just - making the upgrades-for-a-year price cheaper - either by simply decreasing it or by offering upgrades-for-two-years instead. I think this would psychologically be better:
If I had two DAWs, one where I have to pay the upgrade anyways as a flat fee and one where I would have to pay per usage (hour/day/month etc.), then I would always ask myself - do I *really* need that rented DAW for this job? (even if it would pay towards ownership.) So I would tend to prefer the other one, even in cases where the rented one would have been the better choice feature-wise.) I know it's not logical (as the rent-to-own DAW might be cheaper for a case-by-case scenario.) But I think I would fall for that trap even though I know it

You think it should be free. Are you serious ? Come on. They dont work for free.geo33 wrote: In my mind Bitwig 2 should be a FREE update for all the suffering and trouble many users have gone through in vesion 1.
I dont have a problem with the new license model. I like Bitwig and its my main DAW. I will go for the Update.

I also think version 2 should be free for all version 1 owners, specifically a free year of subscription... the reasons have been stated and stated again... Bitwig's compensation for work rendered is really not the question, as far as I'm concerned they've already been paid, version 1 did not deliver. I could invoke market forces, I'm sure new people will pay out but people who have been there done that shouldn't. You should'nt have to pay more to get a working product, that's more in the realm of extortion.don_looney wrote:You think it should be free. Are you serious ? Come on. The pricing is crazy. You're essentially re-paying for the software and getting a small discount as a previous owner. Rather than paying for a small upgrade to software you already own.620hun wrote:Same here. I sent them a reminder and they responded in an understanding way saying that I should get in touch when 2.0 comes out and they'll sort something out. So I'll wait and see if we manage to resolve this nicelyGranum wrote:Before I purchased Bitwig in 2014 I emailed their support asking about upgrade pricing and received the email below in response. I purchased a license with this in mind. I think that customers who were lied to have a right to be upset, and that companies who lie to customers should be held a accountable.
We release bug fixes and minor updates for free. A bigger upgrade, such as a next Bitwig Studio 2.0 version will be a paid upgrade.
I can't tell you the upgrade prices yet. This will depend on the feature set of the next version. However, we will make sure to offer reasonable upgrade pricing to customers that purchased the 1.0 version of Bitwig Studio.
Best regards,
I have no issues with the model itself, only the prices. I paid 209 EUR for 1.0, and now I'd have to pay 159 for the upgrade? Isn't that ludicrous? I'd happily pay 99, it's not about that. I just feel lied to.
