It's not enough that they require an overpriced subs scheme.. They also ruin the value of the investment v1 holders didanttimaatteri wrote:i wonder what will happen on marketplace then^^. secondhand price (for pre 10th december 2016 licenses) will not pass the above 140bucks line for sure.

Nobody in their right mind would pay more than $80 for an old used license now, given that a new v1 with free upgrade to v2 can be had for ~$250, eg at JRRShop.

imo, the best Reason was R3Lejurai wrote:Not really. I know people who still use Reason v2.5mellotronaut wrote: if you buy Reason, you could be equally pissed like with Bitwig after 3 years.![]()
And why now? I'd be totally happy with it. Besides Reason is cheaper to upgrade, it has had some nice features with every major update that are easily worth the money if you really feel you need them. But like I said. If you don't, you can manage with old Reason for a very long time.
i went from 6.5 to 9 last year, added Synthetic Rig in December, when it was half price and now i'm quite satisfied, but Reason is not my main daw. imagine, it was my main daw: i would have bought the upgrade to 7 (129€), then to 8 (129€) and to 9 (129€) and i'd added the discounted Synthetic Rig in December (149€; normal price 299€) ... and ... arrggghhh, because Reason added some essential features and workflow enhancements between 6.5 and 9.
Bitwig is an adolescent daw. it is fascinating, offers a semimodular approach, augments Ableton's workflow, but it lacks a lot of more or less basic features. if it is your main daw, you won't miss any update, because you'll need most of the enhancements and every bugfix.

I love the new announcements.
I bought v1 during the first week, do i regret beeing on it?
No
I have a workflow that works for me, i created more music in these time than i did in years before. I got paid work, so i keep on working as good as i am able with the tools i have. If there are new tools like an Upgrade out there, i'll wait until the most common bugs are solved, try it and see if it fits my needs, than buy or pass it.
I try to do more of the things, making fun and giving me money, instead of turning me head over and over again about what is going to come when and how.... But that's just me....
ps: there is some stuff i would like to use, but i need something that works now. I'll skip the upgrade for some month till everything fits "perfectly". What i got right now, makes me able to get my job done for now.
Cheers
Maybe someone should mention again, there might be some hidden features etc. for NAMM... I guess we haven't seen everything till now... Collaboration feature could be part of 2.0... just kept under the hood for the Big Show..

One thing I would like to point out. If you've been using Bitwig for a while and it's worked for you, you've been getting value out of it. So don't talk about investments. Investments and capital equipment expenditures depreciate and are written off. Because of that, I normally wouldn't really question the whole upgrade deal. Expensive as it is. Then again, if you bought it on Black Friday or three days before the grace period, that probably deserves at least some love.
But that first buggy year when it was quite unusable in many regards should probably be acknowledged by Bitwig. It was one of the buggiest pieces of software I've ever seen released, and I've been using software since it hung on walls in baggies. Anyone who went through that should get some sort of break just for helping them sort through it. Not to mention that there are still bugs in the existing program.
But as a movie cowboy once said "Deserve's got nothin' to do with it".

Can't wait to get my fingers on it. I'm quite positive that this tiny shitstorm they made happen, brings the price down that more people can afford it

I just removed the Bitwig advertisment/sticker from my Gigging Laptop. Pretty sure I did some good advertising for you guys over the last few years!
Wish I could be bothered putting up my v1 license for sale, but i'm not sure its even worth the trouble at this point. But then if I wait 6 months it will be practically worthless right? :/
To be honest, this is the most dissapointed I've ever been with a software company , but I think its mainly just because I had such high hopes.

Now there's v9 but I don't mind. v7 had all I need so I'm in no rush to upgrade. Maybe Reason 10 or 11 if they bring something incredible

A lot of ableton users gave bitwig a go and invested in it. It is a second daw until its better than ableton. V2 unfortunately does not challenge ableton. Promised features did not eventuate, Its been 3 years of very slow development. No major instruments no major effects. This area is well below ableton. Whats worse though is I was willing to keep the hope alive but not on this new pricing model. A fair update ok but not limited to 1 year. Bitwig have now lost all supporters and will keep only hardcore users which looks like from the poll about 25% of the user base. Bad move.

Not directed at you at all Terrafractyl, I just started with your quote because you summed up well what a lot of folks are expressing. My thoughts below are for everyone on this thread and the BWS community that follows the post in KVR.Terrafractyl wrote:To be honest, this is the most dissapointed I've ever been with a software company , but I think its mainly just because I had such high hopes.
I am the opposite. I love BWS, and still do. 2.0 looks incredible to me. I think this DAW is kicking ass, getting the market to pay attention, and I think it will continue to garner more attention.
The pricing model for the 2.0 intro is what has gone bad, not the DAW itself. In my mind, I'm separating the two.
I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but besides the Reaper model of pay more only if you make income with your DAW (still not sure how Reaper actually verifies that), I like their model of pay now and get ALL updates and fixes for the rest of the current version and all the way into the end of the next version.
I think the price of BWS's upgrade is high, yes. And am curious if they need it in order to stay in business, or if they could revise the price downward a bit.
I think what may be irritating everyone the most is the schedule. Pay the fee and get all updates, and revisions, for the next 12 months. The above mentioned Reaper model takes the spotlight off of the schedule, the timeline. If I know I'm paying X for 2.x through 3.99, regardless of how long it takes to get there, well... that just "feels" better to me.

Agree. Bitwig have not proven they can come up with features in 12 months. Its a ridiculous pricing model. They also promised a modular environment in V2 which has now seen the light as a half featured few modules. Max, Mux and Bidule does it better. To limit updates ( fixes ) to 1 year when they have taken 3 years to come up with V2 is ridiculous and insulting to early adopters.

This is a great idea!machinesworking wrote:Just chiming in on this. You know what's a great "subscription" model?
ReNoise, you buy v3.7 you get upgrades to 4.7. This of course relies on the honesty of the developers, but isn't at all rigged into a time based model, because let's face flat facts, no software company ever has or ever will complete all planned upgrades on a time scale that customers expect. This model also allows for the software developer to 'speed up' or slow down development on their own schedule, not beholden to upgrade schedules. It also allows for a customer that just bought v1.3 a month ago etc. to get updates until v2.3.
