I'm on windows 7, 64bit, running Cubase 64bit.
I've been having alot of projects that cause Cubase to crash on opening. Usually after several attempts it works and it's intermittent.
I put in an issue with Steinberg 10 days ago with some crash dumps and I'm still waiting on a reply.
However today one project failed to open every time I tried. I've gone through the plugins and the one that seems to be behind this particular problem is Satin. Odd because I use Satin alot, I've had it for years and the Cubase is a Feb 2016 build.
I'm not at all technical, any suggestions?

Try going to Appdata/roaming/Steinberg/ and moving everything in Cubase 8.5 folder into another folder. Then if it stops crashing, start moving the important preference/user data files back into that folder one by one (plugins, preferences, plugin manager configurations, keyboard shortcuts, etc etc). A lot of the time some errant preference file is the problem.

+1 about the preferences.
Also, are you using the vst3? Sometimes it causes issues. Use the vst2 instead.
And, of course, use the latest versions.
I know it doesn't help but I use the same setup as you and have had no issues. Satin is my goto plugin for echo and flanging.

I think it's the VST2 version.
Odd it's been rock solid for years, why would it change?

I just had an issue with channel 1 of HALion cutting out. It would be fine for a while, then just stop working. And just in the one project. Tried everything - restarts, reboots, copying parts to a new track, copying just the notes into new parts, new instance of HALion... I ended up not using that channel.

If it used to work ok, and suddenly starts to crash, then something must have changed in your system. If you didn't install or change anything yourself, maybe some automatic Windows-Update is causing trouble? Hard to say.
If you are certain that Satin causes the crash, first thing to try would be to simply download the latest version of the plugin from the u-he homepage, install it again and check if Satin still crashes that Cubase project.
If it does, it might be best to write a mail with all the details to support at u-he dot com.
