Cubase Pro 8 and Cubase Elements 8 trial and Cubase Elements 8

Hm, little bit of a rant: Why does Steinberg implement something useful like the VST quick controls in Cubase Elements, and then does not let you configure these? Basically, i don't see the use of them other than to control the respective parameters from within the VST rack window. I really looked forward to a more clear way to set up my midi controller to control my VST's in Cubase, but nah, i still have to use the cumbersome generic remote dialogue... please Steinberg, consider a more straight forward way to set up midi control for VST's. Studio One does it almost perfectly, so where's the problem? And why the heck am i able to set up my midi keyboard for the quick controls in the settings if i'm not able to configure the 8 quick controls? Or am i totally missing something?

Edit: Ok, turned out i'm stupid. Figured it out 5 minutes after posting. So you actually have to configure your midi keyboard for use with the quick controls in the settings, then you have to edit the Remote Control Editor for the plugin you want to control with the VST quick controls. So basically, you edit the respective quick control "pages" in the RCE, then you have the quick controls you set up in the RCE available. Wow, i wouldn't have figured that out in ages when watching the Youtube videos about quick controls in Cubase. Anyway, happy i can use it now. Only thing i wonder why it's restricted to 8 quick controls at a time. Most controller keyboards these days have at least 8 faders and 8 encoders which you can use at a time. Well, maybe i find a quick way to switch between the quick controls pages then.

I was wondering if you might have some insight into something I am experiencing with Cubase 8 on Windows 8 with 32G RAM and an i7 processor with revo drives.

For some reason even with this power it can't handle too many plugins.
When I view the system performance the computer isn't using more than about 6G of RAM, so it has loads spare.

Is there something that can be done within the DAW to make it use the system more efficiently that you know of?

I would be most grateful for any help.

Yes as mentioned by T-CM11, you need to configure your device right. For example I have two Asio drivers that I use (one at a time), one is for the usb audio interface (Focusrite driver) and one for the integrated sound card (Asio4all). Then you need to set the latency (something between 2ms to 10ms with buffer size between 32 to 512). Experience with the settings till you get the best performance possible without problems.

If you already did the above and sure of your Asio driver settings, then it might be a cpu hog plugin or some plugin incompatibility. I suggest first to test native Cubase instruments first then other vendors plugins one at a time.

There isn't but we hace released Cubase Pro 9 not so long ago, and there isn't yet a trial version for Cubase Pro 9, Cubase Artist 9 and Cubase Elements 9. They will be available in a couple of weeks, please bare with us.
