From developer stores without temporary or upgrade path discounts: Live Standard is 349 eur, last update from Live 8 Standard was 159USD (149 eur) in 2013. BWS2 is 379eur + 159eur annually.
Customers of any product they know and prefer are ok paying some premium for it, it's mostly a matter of how much it actually is. Many Bitwig users have expressed being more or less OK with ~100 currency units, which could point to a figure where current expectations meet the price. For new customers this is more problematic, especially considering the market position. Perceived newcomer and "early version" costing more than the mature top dog literally everyone is using is a tough sell.
Device/content-wise BWS doesn't compare with Suite of FLS Signature I'm afraid, so FLS Producer is significantly cheaper at 189eur per license with lifetime free updates and support. The Cubases, Sonars and Reapers of this world are also DAWs, but the workflow is just too different to make comparisons meaningful.

To be fair I think I must have received almost an upgrade's worth of third-party discounts out of owning BWS.
The price is indeed a bit high IMO but after my upgrade from 2.0 runs out I'll just wait until I see something that really makes it seem worthwhile. I also wonder if they'll have sales on that price. 25% off puts it pretty much in the sweet spot.

Yes there is more for the money in an FL Studio bundle than BWS - at first sight. Correct me if I am wrong, Bitwig is the only one to feature stock mid/side or multiband FX devices where you can put any chain behind, and I value it more than anything as I have not found a real equivalent in VST, except from Blue Cat Audio maybe..jon wrote:Device/content-wise BWS doesn't compare with Suite of FLS Signature I'm afraid, so FLS Producer is significantly cheaper at 189eur per license with lifetime free updates and support.
In the end, I am glad that Bitwig spent their time to develop something different, at the risk of putting aside those basic things [we|some users] sought after or maybe today we would have Bitwig being a clone of Mixcraft 7 (honestly I have never used the latter!)?

As of yesterday when Logic 10.3 was released, it too now has stock Mid/Side configurations on all it's plugins.pakunoda wrote:.jon wrote:Correct me if I am wrong, Bitwig is the only one to feature stock mid/side

Let's be real logic has a completely different workflow ethic, I haven't touched it since 10.0 but it was definitely less inspiring. At least for me personally.anp27 wrote:As of yesterday when Logic 10.3 was released, it too now has stock Mid/Side configurations on all it's plugins.pakunoda wrote:.jon wrote:Correct me if I am wrong, Bitwig is the only one to feature stock mid/side

I dont see any value from Bitwig updates. I'm with Ableton and Push2 again.
Nothing has been added that i had needed. Push2 is still a third party job for Bitwig. Instead of working on features, they decided to go on a joint venture with Microsoft for the Windows 10 tablet market.
I do not see the need of spending more money in Bitwig as it is right now. And for sure not for 'the safe route' for Bitwig.
Instead of working on new features for the next update they can relax, because they have got your money already. Constant money flow without pressure ... sure why not ... but not with me, sorry.

I've said it a billion times before.. until the day we finally get Movie Import and proper Audio Comping in Bitwig, there is no way I can fully abandon Logic. My work depends on it. I know that Bitwig is centered around MIDI music creation so God knows when I'll finally see these features. Yes, Bitwig is very inspiring probably more than Logic as you say, but Logic has its merits too, #1 being that you get so much for a one time payment of a mere $200.BlackStarMuzic wrote:Let's be real logic has a completely different workflow ethic, I haven't touched it since 10.0 but it was definitely less inspiring. I've made peace with the fact that maybe I can't stick to just one DAW at the moment, although I would absolutely love to in the future. Who knows.. Logic might catch up with Bitwig in terms of being 'inspiring'. Judging from the rate they're going I don't think this is too far fetched of an assumption. Live Loops which is their answer to the whole clip launching thing is coming very soon, it's already a feature in Garageband. They are really starting to cater to the electronic music guys these days. It's a really exciting time for the Logic folk out there, just as it is with the Bitwig folk.

@anp27: I've written it in other threads, but with v2 and MTC you can use the video player xjadeo to do scoring with Bitwig.

Yup, saw that and I just might go that route. Crazy workaround but Bitwig seems worth it to me.Excds wrote:@anp27: I've written it in other threads, but with v2 and MTC you can use the video player xjadeo to do scoring with Bitwig.
But still no workaround for audio comping.

Live Suite 9: $800 USD, launched in january 2013 up to now it got 4 years of updates and maintenance.
Bitwig 2: $399 USD, you get one year of updates, then $507 for 3 years of updates, total: $906.
Now, supossing next version comes out, the cost for the next update cycle: Live update for another 4 years: $199, for a total of $1000.
For 4 years more of BW it would be $676, total: $1582.
With the difference I would have gotten Push 2 also and you don't get as much content with BW

meanwhile im just waiting til bitwig fits my needs then opt in from 1.0 to 3.0(or maybe 4.0) for the update license price.rod_zero wrote:Live Suite 9: $800 USD, launched in january 2013 up to now it got 4 years of updates and maintenance.

because:
"Does Bitwig Studio now come at an annual cost of the upgrade price?
No, you can wait to renew your license, until you discover a new feature you like in the latest version of Bitwig Studio - and then get back on board again."
your calculation doesnt fit i guess. as far as i understood the new licensing model.
