I don't think that's true. I think that there's an acceptance that a DAW is a very complicated piece of software with a tonne of processes interacting both within itself and within whatever hardware and OS you're using. There are considerably more variables to deal with than something like Photoshop.beatz01 wrote:No, it's not.First of all, this justifying bugs in software "because that's just the way it is" is exactly the kind of downdumbing the industry has made us to accept.
If you're going to buy into a DAW at v1, you can't expect a fully matured product. If you think DAWs are unique in this way, look at what the first iPhone was like or early versions of any OS.
It only seems to be the recent versions of Cubase (7 onwards) that have calmed down some of those users and that's a 15+ year old DAW.
Finally, those saying that Live is perfect seem to have forgotten that development was put on hold at one point to go through a massive load of bug fixes. You also clearly aren't using Max very much because that integration has some absolutely clunking flaws.

I've been happily making music with it since day 1.nocompromise wrote:the early adopters have been beta testers for how many years?
I can't stand logic, I find it incredibly frustrating. Not all hammers are created equalnocompromise wrote:for anyone who has a mac logic is a far more viable solution.
Might matter to some but if you are looking to work 'in the industry' I would think that knowing how to play, record and mix music are far more important skills than knowing one particular DAW.nocompromise wrote:It is used throughout the industry and works.

Anyone who buys V1 of anything can expect a few bugs; personally I never had any show stoppers, nothing that stopped me using BWS for making music, and no more than I have had with Cubase or Live over the tears. Doesn't seem to matter what DAW forum you are on, there are always a few people who are very unhappy and they post 10x more than the happy people.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I'm ok with the license model and will purchased 2.0 (missed the free update by 12 days
) , except for the fact nothing is guaranteed ...I understand I'm getting unlimited updates (major and minor) for 12 months...but no one knows what will transpire during those 12 months, may get 2.0.1...or get 3.0 and beyond
....My solution is to buy at every significant update that I deem worthy of the $170 and I'm thankful that's what Bitwig is allowing us to do
but on the other hand if an update is significant enough nothing keeps Bitwig from raising the update price ....for the record I LOVE BITWIG STUDIO!!! I'm just not wealthy....gotta spend wisely!!...

I know that Bitwig is centered around MIDI music creation so God knows when I'll finally see these features. Yes, Bitwig is very inspiring probably more than Logic as you say, but Logic has its merits too, #1 being that you get so much for a one time payment of a mere $200.BlackStarMuzic wrote:Let's be real logic has a completely different workflow ethic, I haven't touched it since 10.0 but it was definitely less inspiring. At least for me personally.
I've made peace with the fact that maybe I can't stick to just one DAW at the moment, although I would absolutely love to in the future. Who knows.. Logic might catch up with Bitwig in terms of being 'inspiring'. Judging from the rate they're going I don't think this is too far fetched of an assumption. Live Loops which is their answer to the whole clip launching thing is coming very soon, it's already a feature in Garageband. They are really starting to cater to the electronic music guys these days. It's a really exciting time for the Logic folk out there, just as it is with the Bitwig folk.
That makes sense man I wasn't trying to attack you. Curious question though why not use final cut? I'm just wondering?

This new business model has me extremely worried. The way the new subscription model makes it sound like Bitwig does not have your best interest in mind. Also for a new company, this is a bold move, the product is still not finished and we have no idea how progress will be made. Bitwig is currently asking their users to take another blind leap of faith :\

Let me start with this ... I been following this forum for years and when BWS came out everyone forever was pushing them to put out all these new features over & over. Dom & company said they would but needed to focus on the bug fixes etc. Well at the tail end of version 1 a lot people still claim bugs are still there. I would not know how deeply these are for a few reasons. I will say that some of the simple things and even more advanced things missing have brought me back to other DAWS. I seen people here mention some of these things which I will get into but at the same time I do realize all the good that has come so far. I think what bothers myself and maybe most people here in one simple word is "potential" I have to admit if it was not for push2 and some other simple robust creative features in other DAWS I'd be one the people here narrowing down each bug. I had to fight myself to work back in other DAWS because I love'd the BWS concept and flow very much but the things missing & minor bugs killed my flow. Anyway what I mean by potential is despite everyone's reactions or even the many who do not use the DAW anymore or are looking to are here and speaking!!!!!!.. BItwig did a lot of good things over the past year but this may or may not be one of them. I think at the end of the day despite all the cool new features which are fantastic BTW in version 2, the team needs to find a way to insure things are pretty stable before anyone can commit to this update fee. I myself want to see major fixes etc like some have mentioned with API and controllers if you ask me that is huge in this day in age and market. Also audio engine and interface integration. Simple key things for external midi and devices and controls. Simple mix features like fades, ways to customize view of tracks and windows. Just make BWS version as stable as live 7 and some good features and a lot of people will buy BWS 2
In a perfect world BWS will do 2-3 more updates before the version 2 is even consider to released. Run through all the bugs over and over until the DEV team walks in the office and demands a strike. My point is, you pretty much built your own ship here with this all as it can work for the better or good for all of us and BWS. I think what most people here are saying is make it worth while...... you can still do that in version 1 put out some more updates kill some of these bugs and put them to rest. Then come out with 2 offer people who have BWS 1 the discount and whhaaaaaa lAAA !!!
Just a little bit of history for you and maybe why my voice and others on here might matter beyond typical forum chat. For one we are the market .... which means we are the $ we are also the voice on the streets and maybe the people other people look to for "what should I use for a DAW? people/users.... I will not go into my background as I am sure there are many creditable artist/engineers on this forum as well although in NY I work with a lot of people and even teach some classes. Forget my credentials and what records I have done or whatever, really means crap in this topic to be honest , but take into mind I must of got about 18-20 people I know to buy a BWS licenses. Fact is they listened to me and took my word for it. I am sure there are many people on here that have that same impact if not more on others. I know this may not sound like much to the BWS team as large numbers matter in the business world. But also remember some years ago this DAW by the name of Ableton Live came out which was very promising at first but still very sheer to anything. In some time and updates people were talking and swearing by Live, which lead to these people telling people they knew and so on to try Live. I really like BWS and I do think this pricing model can work. People here are in fact saying that in this thread but here is the problem.......... Version 2 you need to put it aside for now do a bit more in version 1. I think we need to see it happen before another dollar is put in the BWS bank further more. show us it ! give us more in version1 ------- I will leave off with saying what my buddy Tom Cruise once said' SHOW ME THE MONEY !!!!!
