Have Sylenth1 and earlier I thought I don't need Hive,
but nowadays I changed my oppinion. Ok, it's similar sounding, but have some cool U-he features, and some feature may be improved in the future.

So I understand from your posts that you have Sylenth1 and Cubase only?tasty tatsyn wrote:Dasheesh wrote:Owned Hive since it was released, I also own spire since early on. I also own a handful of other instruments. Here's the thing about hive. It's a players instrument that has a very musical sound. Urs made it as his "everyone" instrument that was intended to be something in everyone's rack, but that's not really what came out. You get more options and expectations met with other offerings that give you the "everything" engine. This isn't an "everything" engine. It's for the person that already has it all and wants something specific and unique or for the person that already has some specific sound in mind. Hive is one of my favorites, and it's a lot of other peoples favorite, but it's not what you expect. It's very modular in nature and has a specific use. I really feel like it's a player's instrument. In U-he's attempt to make simplicity they made something that takes some know how. Something that takes someone that knows what they are listening to. You will fall in love with the sound. It's not as simple as appearances though.
That's the deal to me, i have sylenth but Hive hits me the same way Icarus does..... something about the sound and my workflow/FX's
I'll follow my own advices in these kind of Posts meanwhile.... and ---> Open Cubase -->
Which version of Cubase? Do you have Retrologue and PadShop in Cubase?
Anyway, I agree with FLS that you might need a different kind of synth. I don't think you'll find Hive has this big difference with Sylenth1 because it supposed to be its killer (or lover, whatsoever!).
There are many other choices that can be serve as the only synth you need for your style of music. Zebra 2 is more suitable for 'All in one synth' (and no! Zebra was a hit since 0.9 version as I remember, it just kept its success over the years
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

That is subjective.. I could say the same of Synthmaster One as it beats Hive at its own game and has extended wavetables...chili beans wrote:This is absolutely truemcnoone wrote:Hive...the synth created by the team at U-he, is the greatest synth ever made in the history of synths.

Well, i only wrote that both synths don't sound the same, and that the OP should better make up his own mind, before shelling out 150 € for a synth he might, or might not enjoy, based on opinions on the net.egbert101 wrote: I hope you don't take offense, but I don't understand your reasoning in criticizing my response, other than maybe some bias towards u-he.

Hive is the only UHE synth I regret buying, just haven't used it (jumped in when it was cheap) as the other U-He synths pretty much have it covered (Dive, Zebra, ACE etc). It makes a nice sound for low CPU, so I guess if sound Vs CPU is your main deal, it could be for you, but other than that I would go for Dive and Zebra first, and if you have those, you don't need Hive (but do need Bazzile
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Questions for the OP
1) What do you think of Hive's sound compared to other synths?
2) How many of your current synths do you use regularly? Most? Or are many unused?
3) Will this purchase be difficult for you financially?
4) How seriously do you do this? Very? Or just a hobby?
Answers these questions and you'll have a much clearer idea if Hive is something you really want or need. Our feelings on a particular synth, unless you're asking for technical specifications, are really irrelevant as far as your decision is concerned. Or at least it should be. What does it matter what I think of Hive? Somebody who has it is probably going to tell you that it's great and you should get it and somebody who doesn't have it is probably going to tell you that you don't need it. Please note I used the word "probably" as there is a lot of buyer's remorse in this world. I have my own set of synths I wish I never got.
There's only one person on this forum who has the information you need to make your decision and that's you.

I can say that owning Sylenth and having demoed Hive I see no point in getting the latter. It does sound different but I can't say it sounds notably better (and I prefer Sylenth tbh). It has real PWM, more targets in modmatrix but other synths like Spire, Rapid, Serum etc have all that and much more.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try
