Depends i would say. Gonna disagree once again with ghettosynth here, and say, it's not about the "dated filter" or something (you're really not getting the point i suppose...), but about the CHARACTER of the filter. It's not like people like dated filters, and the dated-ness would be what makes the filter, whatever that means, but the CHARACTER of the filter. And did i also mention it's about the CHARACTER of the filter, and the general sound CHARACTER? I guess not.egbert101 wrote:If Lennard Digital were to update Sylenth1 with more waveforms, including FM, PWM, AM, RM and added Wavetables, upgraded the sound engine, upgraded the filters, then it would slaughter all the other general purpose synths. Amirite?

I like the way it sounds today, if he makes it even better, fine with me. I actually like the S1 sweep sound better than the Hive example further down, it sounds more defined and edgier to me, more old-skool...

Anyway, once sent through effects and embedded in the mix, there will at least something left of the sweep.
Hardware sweeps did not exactly sound thrilling, either, by themselves, like at the beginning of this song from my favorite album:
(It just occurred to me that that album and Sylenth1 have something in common: the former is the only album I ever bought twice, and the latter the only plugin I ever bought twice

i don't know now... i'm demo'ing more synths and....
went out today, had a coffee, ate some chocolate and the feeling i'm getting now is...
remember that sentence... " don't fall to the power of the GAS side"....
i'll be back in a bit and explain some more....

all without Hive now, i don't know, it's not the same sounds but.... the only thing i seem to be missing from hive version is like a tidyness? expecially on the bass and overall sound too?!?
The other vst's are more all over the place if i have to describe it in a way that makes sense...
i'll demo for the next few days and think about it some more, ty all for your observations!

Another concern: I will use Hive just because it's a U-he synth.
I mainly use synths from a few developer and don't care if other developers are creating interesting stuff.

Can anybody make an objective demo of this 'sounds like shitty' sweeping effect? I can hear aliasing on a badly synthesized saw wave quite clearly, but I couldn't figure out what's wrong with the sounds linked in this thread. Perhaps the cut-off frequency modulation does not respond linearly (or perhaps exponentially, tracking the frequency of the musical notes?) It shouldn't be too hard to demonstrate the existence of the problem once you know what it is. Calling it an old tech shitty filter does not educate anybody about what the truth may be.
