There was a story in Rolling Stone or somesuch (as in reputable newspaper) that Syd came to the Wish You Were Here sessions at Abbey Road and no one recognized him. He had gotten pretty heavy and gone totally bald. I remember the story because the actual quote just stuck with me for some reason and has to this day even though I can't remember who published it.Squids wrote:I read a story that Syd showed up at the studio when the were recording Wish You Were Here and he was strumming a guitar with no strings on it.
Also, in the Dark Side of The Moon DVD, Waters said Syd had gone crazy and made no reference to drugs at all. By the way, I recommend the DSOTM DVD as well as the Live At Pompeii DVD - they are both very well done. I wrote up a short synopsis of some of the good stuff on the DSOTM DVD - but if you haven't seen it, my writeup would have been too much of a spoiler. I'll just say there were many moments in the interviews that just floored me - as in "Whoa! No kidding!"
