Just sat down with the beta 2, and a couple of initial impressions. It still looks quite nice, but somehow it feels just a touch squarer and not quite as rich color-wise. It seems a bit colder in it's impression on me. I can't open both 1.3.15 and 2.0 b2 at the same time to do a side-by-side, but as the difference is subtle, so is my comment.

One thing I do not like is this:

as opposed to this

I don't care about the arrangement, but I do care about the size of the text. It's still readable, but I scale to 125% for a reason. One of the things that drives me crazy about Live is that you can scale the GUI, but the preferences dialog text remains so tiny that I have to take off my glasses to read it.

Not a horrible deal, and I understand the groupings, but please guys...

P.S. Please don't hijack this thread and make it only about the piano roll... ;-)

From what I've seen, I prefer to original. The subtle changes have a Windows 2000 feel.

That looks like 1.3.

Wouldn't 2.0 beta on a Surface Pro illustrate your point more effectively? :D

What are all those things? Never seen them. But use on touch reinforces my complaint about the smaller text and buttons.

More stuff:

For those that don't have the Beta, the editing is now less modal if you prefer. You can select and drag clips by placing the cursor at the top of the clip, and set a mark for operations in the bottom half. Then a la Live, you can right-click and select an operation to perform. The tools are still available as well.

You still can't click on a cue marker and rename with Ctrl + R. Drat.

There still don't seem to be shortcuts for jumping to the next and previous markers. Drat.

There are beginning and end of document commands, but all I've seen them do is change the locator and that didn't seem to be consistent. Partial drat.

When you open the program, there's the project dialog, but when you open a song, there's still the blank song there so you have to activate the audio engine for the song you just opened. I can see the logic in this if you're performing live on subsequent opens, but when you're first running the program it's just a pain. Drat.

The background of the audio editor panel takes the color of the clip. I'm not sure I like this. It seems to draw my focus to the wrong place. A very subtle pastel version of the color might be better. Err...

Full screen view doesn't seem to do anything but remove two controls from the top bar which is still there. I guess that's because it's where the song tabs are.

On a subjective appearance basis, I figured out what I miss from 1.3--orange at the top of the screen where things were selected. It kind of gave the program a welcoming vibe and never distracted me.

Overall, it seems they've been tightly focused on the touch, live performance, and internal creative capabilities. I guess the core audience is EDM/sound design. Us arranger view types will just have to wait awhile.

Aha! Add the OVR button to the bar and I'm happy again with the orangeness. I wish the follow function were still there. It's now very tiny and below the arranger pane.

Oooooooh :o .
I saw your picture in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=259&t=479209

I didnt know excactly what you meant. And i was hoping it was this!
Because of your topic it got clear.
But PLEASE!!!! Let it stay this way!
Maybe you are right about pastel color ... Or optional maybe to put it ON/OFF.
BUT Oh man! Im happy with that one!
I color code everything in an almost compulsively way.

Thanx for posting it all.

I find it distracting, and it's very hard on the eyes making it far more difficult to see the waveform for editing. I color code as well, but the bar at the top is sufficient for me.
