Hey! I wonder if it's possible to add the old mousewheel behaviour (Sylenth1 v. 2) in the new version of Sylenth1 v. 3? I find scrolling being very "slow" and it does not change the parameter that much, compared to the old one which was much better and faster. This helped with coming up with sounds fast.

Hi! Are you on Windows or MacOS? What parameters are you referring to exactly?

For instance, in version 2 of Sylenth1, scrolling the mousewheel would increment/decrement +1 or -1 on most parameters (such as Attack, Cutoff), which was very handy because it was a nice way to get precise values fast. I think this would be appreciated in the new version. Any plans? :)

Related to the mousewheel: It's nothing important, but when I operate the pitch bend wheel with the mousewheel, it doesn't return to the zero position, i.e. S1 remains detuned.

The mousewheel behaviour will be improved in the next update!

Well you can't really 'hold' the pitchbend wheel with your mousewheel.

If you make it jump back to zero after each mousewheel movement, it doesn't really move at all.
Another option would be to use a timer and jump back after a short while, but how long would that short while be exactly?

I never use the GUI pitch wheel, but I was curious how it works. I mean, operating a wheel with a wheel makes sense, one might think :hihi:
I think the current implementation might lead to accidental detuning for people who use those GUI controls.
Also, I think there is more stepping when using the mousewheel, especially with bigger pitch bend ranges.

Regarding automatic reset after some time, not sure. I think that is very difficult as it would basically require S1 to know what the player wants to hear 8) I mean, maybe he has a patch with very long release and wants that to end on the bent pitch. Or the other extreme, basically resetting at note-off. The reverb's output pitch also depends on the pitch wheel position.

How about giving the pitch wheel a different, striking color whenever it is not at zero?

Although the mousewheel is a wheel too, it only transmits ticks up or down to the computer (like a joystick).

Unless they're absolutely tone-deaf, they'll notice the extremely false detuning soon enough.

Who's speaking of extremely false detuning? To the contrary, slight detuning is the problem.

Nor is there anything ugly about a little LED indicator that would be lit when the wheel is not at zero, like this:

Don't get so defensive whenever someone mentions things about S1 that could be improved and even presents possible solutions...

lol it's fine dude, no need to obsess about stuff that doesn't matter this much.

My guitar doesn't turn flaming chartreuse when it's out of tune, yet I manage to notice and tune it. And I'm not even a great guitarist!

If you don't have absolute hearing, you might be playing and recording detuned for hours without even noticing :) After all, unlike with the guitar, the whole synth is detuned, not just one string, which would indeed strike out when playing chords involving other strings as well.

Whether or not you think it doesn't matter much, is irrelevant to me. To a perfectionist, everything is relevant.

I wasn't defensive, I just meant to say that you'd normally have a lot of other sounds in your song and a slightly detuned Sylenth1 would sound very out of tune with the rest of your track, so you'd notice it soon enough.. I don't think a LED indicator would be a useful addition.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion, of course :hihi:

Not only would the light indicate non-zero, but it would also make it easier to see the current pitch wheel position when using the mouse instead of a hardware controller.

Either way, for mouse operation I much prefer the ribbon-type control that was featured on Chris Kerry synths and Memorymoon's ME80. That's fun to use even with the mouse. The horizontal arm/hand movement is simply more ergonomic and precise :)

I think it's time for FLS to distill his creative genius into his own soft synth. Maybe for the next developer challenge?

I don't know how to program :cry: I vaguely remember my Modula 2 classes at the university decades ago :hihi: I should have continued programming and switched to C++ later on, but back then I did not really see any purpose in programming (that was long before VST's etc.), so I quit.
