If it wasn't for Luigi, I would've almost forgot posting this in time. I mostly did this in the first week, but then really didn't like the "demo" variety it had, rather than a song...and then forgot about it until TODAY! All I did was wrap it up and left it as this kind of eclectic rock shopping track... ah well.

OSC#96: "Thopan Phootefear"

Instances: 42
DAW:MuLab (www.mutools.com)
FX:delay_cross, Parameteric EQ, 2 Band EQ, 4 Band EQ, tight room, level compressor, Ping Pong Beat, Vintage Echo 2, TF lowpass...

3rd party: OTT, Slick HDR, LoudMax, Auburn Sounds Panagment, space360, Sanford Reverb, Boogex, OldSkoolVerb, WG Doffset, Abstract Chamber

Nabla is a surprisingly excellent source for drum design as well as a number of unlikely sounds. I did have some challenges created lead sounds, but it pushed me to work the playing style almost more than the sound design. Altogether I did truly enjoy working with it and working on this weird cluster of similar styles, which so desperately had me wanting a more epic song instead, but well... ...anyway, very enjoyable creation process! :phones:

So... I am submitting my entry for OSC#96.

Nabla gave me troubles initially... but later it became my friend to make some dark and lurid sounds and resulting in this finished track.

I am keeping it to the same version which I had posted yesterday for comments and feedback due to some positive comments.

Thanks to all friends who have listened and commented on soundcloud and slack channel.

Here it is:

Hello fellow OSCers!

First of all: Please excuse the horrible mix of my song. I wanted to try something different this time, so i tried making a kind of trap instrumental. It didn't really turn out to be a trap song but i sticked with the sub bass and the rhythm patterns. And since i was only mixing on headphones, due to the lack of decent monitors, the frequency balance turned out to be a catastrophe. Sorry!

So i think if you want to enjoy this piece, you should better listen on headphones :scared:

Anyway, it's nice to be back after a couple of months :hyper:

Hello,
Here's my entry. I could spent more time with this track, but if I don't post it here, it would probably stay on my hard drive forever :) Not sure if this is final version.
After some initial playing with Nabla i found those similar to acoustic instruments sounds. There is accordion, doublebass and cajon. I don't see it as imitation of those instruments, but Nabla's own nice sounds.
Don't get freaked out by accordion intro :)
Leave comment what You like and don't like if You want to.

One more thing, can we use: EQ automation in daw, keyboard controller mod wheel ?

EDIT: Final track version posted in next page.

Hello,

This is my first OSC and honestly I already feel that I have won something, it's pretty crazy what you can do with a single synth. :)

Instead of worrying about layering too much I tried to get the most out of single instances of Nabla and mixing.

a lot of astounding tracks made for this contest, I'm ashamed of my entry now

another problem is that I know little to nothing about mastering

Post

No better place to be then, phace! ;)
...I didn't even realize just how little I knew about mastering before I joined. ...now I'm starting to get it! :phones:
Just to hear what people are doing should be enough inspiration to go google the heck out of mastering! 8)

I used to only ever do sound design, that's what I loved. It's now that I realize that mixing down a track and mastering are both arts in themselves.

Post

Oh, absolutely!
I really look at it like preparing a whole stage play, in a way. While designing a sound is almost like the wardrobe for an actor, the music is the character and the mix is the stage design as well as the magic effects, so to say. Thus, when you create a whole song, it is very much like creating a whole theater production or concert for that matter. Pretty exciting.
However, there seem to be many layers one has to discover. The more confidence you gain, the more you can begin to focus on how the placement and movement of the instruments in the mix support their characters. I believe, this goes for all genres, while some may try to create a realistic environment, which should engage the listener, like being inside a dancing crowd, and others try to entertain an audience, which just sits their and observes. I'm sure one can think up plenty of scenarios, but with those things in mind, music becomes more of a "real" experience.
Even the final dealings, such as mastering levels, limiting and what ever else may be pulled over the whole mix, help determine the nature of the set. There are, however, some useful guidelines to cater to most listening/delivery setups properly. I almost doubt that I serve them adequately, but I'm trying for sure.

So, yeah, it's all part of the artistry! :)

It's always good to read Taron's replies.

How satisfying...!!

Where are like or love buttons for posts..? I want to use it for your post, Taron.

haha yeah ^ pretty neat analogy for the presentation of music

Apparently there are problems with soundcloud to upload my track, I hope I do not win the time to participate.
