Hrm... that's a toughie to solve without seeing your setup.
First, the obvious-- latest drivers
Next, does the software feature a proprietary "mixer" soft that's only passing 2 channels through? There may also be an option in your Firestation's setup that allows or disallows your host to use this mixer. Try switching it either on/off to see if it makes a difference (that's if you even have this setting; I'm just going by my humble 2496, which does)
In Tracktion, I have to ask the obvious-- in the Settings page, have you "enabled" all of your inputs? For that matter, when you go to Settings--> Audio devices, do you even SEE 8 possible inputs? If not, then it's time to look into the Firestation's setup rather than Tracktion's, after all.

well, that is kind of the weird thing...it sees 8 OUTPUTS, but not inputs.

That IS quite a weird thing. If it only sees 2 inputs, you'll need to check the Firestation's control panel and read the manual for anything you've missed. That failing, it'll be time to get on the horn with their tech support.
I wonder if any FireStation users of other hosts have had any difficulties? Might be worth putting a new post into the hardware/setup/etc. area.

where do you go in traction for your inputs?

Same place. Click the "settings" tab at the top, and then "Audio Devices" on the left there. There are 2 lists: audio devices and MIDI devices. Select your sound-card and the type of driver you want it to use (usually ASIO). Underneath, you should see a list of 8 inputs (the card IS 8 input, no?) and 8 outputs. The first one in each list will usually be green (enabled) while the rest are red (disabled). Click on the ones you want to enable.
Also, I'm not sure if Tracktion will automatically group them into stereo pairs, in which case you will only see 4 ins and 4 outs, and you will need to uncheck the radio buttom that says "treat as stereo pair".

Ahh the firestation, my most hated piece of gear right now.
Make sure you have all 8 outs and ins properly routed in the mLan patchbay and then they should show up ok in the Tracktion settings page. Used to work for me.
Whatever you do DO NOT upgrade the firestations firmware to mLan2. I did and now my unit does not work at all. This has happened to many other people also. And there is no way to restore it to what it was...

I think I have them all routed correctly...am I missing something?
luckily, I had the studio deconstructed during the mlan2 fiasco and found out about it later...I know I would have jumped on it to
