you sure? no other new features in 2.8?
There's the wavefolder from RePro-1, right. So skins WILL have to be updated. But it won't break what already exists there.

Part of the plan, but I hear it's tricky. So no promises.

I have not been following this topic in a long while. So is Zebra3 going to have lots of new features? or is more of a refinement of zebra2?

Sample loading?
wavetables?
Granular engine?

It has already been said that there will be no granular engine (unfortunately).

My thoughts on this is that nowadays it is a sound design standard and should be a mandatory step to implement a granular engine in Z3. Saludos colega.

*sigh*

Here's the thing: The new UI is vastly better to use. It's much easier on the eyes, has a more consistent layout, colour coded modules and a lot of other little improvements on usability. We chose to make the knobs visually smaller because it gives the whole UI a more tidy look. We did not choose to abandon the vector rings of knobs, so this is one of the things we're still working on - it just looks like they're missing when indeed this is work in progress and they might reappear anyway (not set in stone).

Why wooden side panels? - Because as we chose to make the UI flatter, the UI can "disappear" in front of certain hosts. It's kind of an awkward effect. So we added a thin border that gives it enough contrast to stand out, even if the host software has a similar colour scheme.

Too bland? - It's meant to be. But don't despair, a high contrast and extra "un-bland" version is being worked on in parallel.

The skin looks so good the oscillators might sound just "brighter" now :-D

My applause for adding Wavefolder, this is something i did not expect but super excited. More distorted sounds!

I personally like a lot the vector knobs of zebra2 and how the line becomes more bold as the value increases.

Also I love that zebra looks more "futuristic" since is a forward thinking synth and not an emulation.

Considering the analog-style GUIs are the ones I actually use instead of just browsing presets, I can't find anything wrong with the design direction.

It's sharp, I really like the contrast and readability and reduction of clutter.

There will always be details we can argue about but this update will inspire me to start using Zebra as intended and that's a great improvement in my book. Well done, GUI-guy!

Oh, and it's another free update? C'mon, that's awesome! You have to at least admit that. What a great investment this was and I've only had my license for two years!

best skin for Z3 :tu:

I really like the new skin. Looks cleaner, sharper, and reminds me of some Ableton/Bitwig-type styling (esp. disco skin in Ableton) that I'm fan of. Good work guys. UI matters - i know that someone said in jest above about the oscillators sounding brighter because of this update...and while i'm not suggesting that the GUI makes the sound engine sound different, the user experience as a whole can really be impacted (negatively or positively) by the GUI, so I appreciate the steps u-he is taking.

Nice work guys, keep it up.

I've never used the Zebra 1 but looking at it the vector knobs are clear and coherent. Easy to read. They are great & way better than the new Diva knobs with little increment lines.

Why put increment lines on EVERY knob now?

Wow, you guys have really lost the plot.

No, you did. :D

You're arrogant for thinking you're right and everybody else (moreover u-he) is wrong and "lost the plot" and that Zebra must look how you say is better (except it doesn't necessarily have to be the case, and you cannot claim this for sure until you actually spend some time with the skin, like some of us beta testers already did). Where's your diploma from industrial design, huh? :hihi:

EvilDragon it's not just me.
andresnol wrote:not a fan of the DIVA knobs, even in DIVA they are secondary. do the "eyelashes" provide any important information? if they would, then why so imprecise. they don't need to look like that just to follow a classic synth design language like DIVA. i am also for the vectors for modulation.
The plot is the story or history of Zebra. Till now Zebra has had vector knobs, and no increment lines. It is one of it's defining visual features. Now it gets the smallest analog knobs with many increment lines. So yes, the plot has been lost. Why not save this for Zebra3 and keep the Zebra2 story intact?

Zebra - no increment lines (for now).
Bazille - no increment lines.
Ace - no increment lines.

What do increment lines around EVERY knob bring to the UI?

They get to glow when you change the knob value. At least that's what the intention is and why u-he's building some new UI elements.

The new Zebra2 skin looks really, really good. It feels up to date and easy to "read". Much more hardware-ish, not so flat as before, and I personally think thats important.

And Urs, try not be offended by the dumb words of spunkmuffin. There always going to be someone with to much spare time but with nothing positive to add that want to put his frustration on others. And these guys are the ones that don´t even make music.

Keep up the good work Urs!
