I know foosnark. It occupies the niche I targeted for (so 1024x768 screen res is definitely not recommended.)foosnark wrote:The clips sound good to me. But I'm still going to beat the GUI dead horse.![]()
I chose to build for tomorrow's computers, not yesterday's.
Also note that those mod source selector dials are easier to read as you rotate them (the selected position is the most well lit). Really, it's turning out to be VERY quick and easy to use. I did the GUI first exactly so I would be forced to use it during development of the voice. So if there was anything annoying about it, I'd know by now. All I can say is, even with over 180 controls, it's one of the fastest to edit soft-synths I've ever used.
Also note that there's a text read-out at the top that shows the name and value of whatever knob you're moving. So if you can't see some label, just wiggle the knob and you'll see what it is. And I like to think that it's laid-out intuitively enough that you'll just KNOW which knob is which after an hour or so of using it. I mean, I'm typing on a keyboard right now and I can't see the letters underneath my hands. Yet I keep poking the correct ones. Same with a real-world keyboard, I'm sitting 3 feet away from my Korg CX-3 and a DX-7 and I can't read most of their silkscreened panel labels.
I agree it's not for everybody. But I felt making something different would be best in a market where so many products look, feel and sound, the same. You're right, WHO needs another VA synth? Well, I'm hoping to convince many of you that you do. Those who like it, will LOVE it.
So yes, this horse is dead. There's over 3 months of work in that GUI and I'm not starting over from scratch until version 2.x (which may be never! I HATE it when companies release a product, then come out with another "improved" one a year later to force you to buy it again! If I do ever do that, it'll be because it's ALL new and I'm just re-using the name.)
EDIT: By the way, I indend to eventually offer different color sheme backgrounds, and probably even one made with a pixel-font as well. Also, there is SOME chance of an option for a different kind of mod-source selector control, but no promises on that one. We'll see.
Cheers!
