I can tell you how to do it in Windows. It should be similar in Linux.ricou31 wrote:Hello,
How is it possible to export track as MP3 with Tracktion 5 and Linux ?
Thanks
Eric
1. You need the LAME MP3 converter to be installed on your PC. I assume it can be installed on Linux.
2. On the Settings tab, under General Behaviour, you need to set the LAME Location. You should be able to browse to wherever the file is.
3. In your Edit page, choose the Export button, and then Render To A File.
4. When the Render dialogue box appears, set the format to MP3.
5. Set whatever else you want, and press the Render button.
If that doesn't work, let us know which step failed.

"Hi Eric, unfortunately MP3 export is only supported in T7 on Linux.
Sorry for any inconvenience,

If your using Ubuntu or Linux Mint and have the restricted extras installed what does it matter if you can't export to MP3 .... Just export to WAV and use SoundKonverter to convert the WAV to MP3 problem solved .... T5 is free ...

I think there some kind of licensing cost with implementing MP3 support in a software product...

Yes , but ...... Just like Reaper and some other inexpensive DAW you have to point out where the lame.dll file is located .....You have to download the lame.dll file yourself ... So yes it does have to do with license fees for MP3 support ...fortklang wrote:Would also happen with win/mac but it tracktion uses the lame codec, which is open source.chico.co.uk wrote:I think there some kind of licensing cost with implementing MP3 support in a software product...

It's open source, but doesn't ship with the tracktion install, because then the tracktion manufacturers would be obliged to pay licensing costs to whoever it is that owns the mp3 patent rights.fedexnman wrote:Yes , but ...... By providing an option for the user to install it themselves, technically the licensing issue is passed on to the end user (I think ...) The fact that no end user then goes and pays those licensing costs is a bit of a loophole that I don't see being closed any time soon ...
