Is there a way to insert time (say 2 bars) at the beginning of an existing edit so that EVERYTHING that formerly began on 1,1 now starts on 3,1?

Thanks.

Here is how I would do it. First, turn on Snap and make sure all your tracks start on a main beat, say 1 of a measure. Then shift/select all tracks and drag them forward in time however much you need.

There is another way. When you highlight tracks, you find an option in the Properties Panel (second column) called Insert into Tracks. Use the Input and Output markers (you can use I and O as shortcuts with the play head in the position you want) to define an area, highlight all tracks, then use Insert into Tracks and choose the Insert Space in the Marked Region option.

Thank you both. Jabe your method works a charm. Now here is a slightly more esoteric but related question.

I have a tempo map associated with an audio clip. The audio clip and tempo map start at 1,1. I want to insert 2 bars at the beginning of the edit as above. After I use Jabe's method, all clips begin at 3,1 as expected. HOWEVER, the tempo map does NOT move. The result is that the clip is now 2 bars out of sync with its tempo map.

There doesn't seem to be a way to insert time on or otherwise move the points on a tempo map horizontally.

I came up with a workaround wherein I select all points on the tempo map, copy it, move the cursor to the new start point and paste. But this seems a bit clumsy and susceptible to introduction of minor errors.

Any suggestions anybody? And thanks!

Tempo mapping isn't something I've tried before, but I just had an unsuccessful play and inserting onto the tempo line seems a reliable way of making T7 disappear. On the occasions the paste did work, it replaced the following tempo detail instead of shifting existing info rightwards first.

Okay, I got it.

1. Set the Input and Output markers at the ends of your work or tempo map.
2. Click the tempo line. It'll go red. Click Ctrl-C (or Ctrl-X, or whatever Mac allows) to copy it.
3. Put the playhead at the beginning of bar 3, or wherever.
4. Paste.
5. Flatten out the tempo line on bars 1 and 2, if necessary.

Fingers crossed...

Jabe,

Yep. This is what I did also. It works, but do you think it is a little cumbersome and prone to error? (I do.) I guess I should see how this is handled in other DAWs also as a point of reference. Maybe this is normal.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, I do too. Insert of blank space would be a great addition. It doesn't seem like it would be a major change, so perhaps suggest it as a Feature Request?

OK. This is a none issue and user error.

The way to insert time into an edit is in the MENU under Tracks>Insert Space in the Marked Region into Edit. This will insert the space AND move the tempo points. Done.

Thanks all!

The Tracks button in the menu doesn't have an option to Insert Space into the Marked Region on the version of T7 I have.

Hi mate,

Select the track, in the context sensitive bit at the bottom go to the "Insert into tracks" button, it's there.

However, this doesn't actually move the tempo points ...

However, it is there, in Waveform, under the Tracks button, and does move the tempo points.

Yes, I'm sorry. I'm referring to Waveform.
