How to customize a script for launchpad mkI (js noob)?

I have very limited experience with javascript but i have a clear vison for what i would like.

I have an original launchpad as well as an apc40 mkI. I would like to use the launchpad primarily as a step sequencer. For the launchpad I would like the step sequncer to be on the main page, with a piano roll style interface on the bottom 7 rows and a beat indicator on the top row. the current step sequencer functionality on the launchpad is to select a note and then add it to the timeline. I would perfer a to see the timeline of each note and to scroll up and down the scale, and the have note lengths down the right side.

any help on this would be much appreciated. I'm not affraid to open script files and play around but I'm fairly lost when i look at the controller scripts.

This isn't a simple edit unfortunately, I think it would be easiest to write this from scratch.
