Why? The value on the second hand market has no influence on the revenue generated for Bitwig.Fleer wrote:Price is down to $200 for Bitwig 2.0 in the sales threads.

I guess it would be interesting to have a tiered system with professionals and hobbyists. The latter would still enjoy free upgrades but no instant support or professional features. Bitwig is really worth it to have lots of users, pro and amateur alike. Simply amazing music environment.

In the audio world it's not really there yet but Reaper is kind of doing it with its $60/$225 license model.liquidsound wrote:Do they really have these two choices? A lot of companies now have commercial and non-commercial version of their software/license.

I don't think people treat this as an investment decision. At least they shouldn't.dentnile wrote:Unless more people takes a chance on a product with a high second hand value.mgw38 wrote:Why? Logic Pro X has no second hand value at all.

Abletons 100$ option is absolute garbage for anybody that wants to produce real music 16 tracks is not enough and if I remember studio one has their limitations as well so that is not a good option. If you're really going to be that simple about it go with Audacity its free.nonplussed_ wrote:"I know exactly what you're talking about, and no, that sort of thing is extremely rare in audio production programs."
I just want to chime in and say, to a certain extent it depends on what you mean by the hobby/professional division, but FL, Ableton, and Studio One (all other DAWs that I'm familiar with) have a $100 or less beginner option that suffices for learners and ppl doing fairly simple work.
--------
Man up save your money make a decision or move on to a different DAW.
if not in that is too difficult check it out here http://shop.avid.com/ccrz__Products?cat ... er=&store= they could've easily gone this route so if it's such a big deal complain to ProTools while you're at it this entire argument on this has gotten so far out of hand that it's no longer productive and really should be closed.

I've accepted their licencing model so I am just going wait it out until the product is so compelling that I can't resist the upgrade price. This is actually good discipline for me. Usually an update comes out for something I love and I don't even think twice. This is good.

Excuse me, but this is not looks like "machine gun"...at all.dom@bitwig wrote:It is even more fair and transparent compared to us deciding "Ok, now we call it version 3 and make you pay" without you knowing how long the life cycle of version 2 will be. In that case you would not even know how long you will get updates for your 2.0 investment.
This new model enables us to completely forget about those things and just machine gun out features as we go. We thought a lot about it and decided to do that brave step as we think it is the best for both sides.
Cheers,
Dom

I had to wait till I had the money. So I sold the korg Volca Bass and my midipal. I'm proud of myself that I didn't put on credit. Bitwig 2 is well worth the money. Better start saving for next year. Too bad there wasn't a pay by month option. Photoshop cost 9.99 a month for a one year subscription.

The Beatles finally got an 8-track tape machine for their 9th studio album. 16-trackers became popular in the early 1970s. Guess no real music was made before that.BlackStarMuzic wrote: Abletons 100$ option is absolute garbage for anybody that wants to produce real music 16 tracks is not enough and if I remember studio one has their limitations as well so that is not a good option. I normally use less than 8 tracks of Live Lite, keep in mind that Drum Racks in Ableton are practically 256 individually mixable tracks with their own insert FX and send FX structures. Track count obviously depends on the style of music, I make music with synths and there simply isn't sonic space for dozens of synths playing at the same time.
I'm still following Bitwig development to see how this licence model pans out, so far the pace has been as glacial as before it seems. Hopefully there's a substantial update before the end of the year?

So am I. Has this been answered yet? If so, can someone please point me to that answer, as I cannot find it? If not, can we get an answer please?stamp wrote:I'm curious, too.sawsq wrote:@Dom: I'm pretty cool with the new model in general, but here's a question:dom@bitwig wrote: (...) and renew your license if we introduce a feature you are interested in.
So, let's say I keep waiting for 3 or 4 years, happily using my increasingly outdated version, while you're adding new features, bugfixes, etc. Will the renewal after that time be 159€ still, and will I get all the stuff you added in between? I can't imagine this - what's the plan for this scenario?
To rephrase the question: what does "renew your license" cost? 380 € or 160 €?

It is $169 (cheaper on sale) regardless of how long you wait... of course that can be changed in the future, but that is where it stands now.ThePhonk wrote:So am I. Has this been answered yet? If you want an answer from Bitwig, email them directly. They hardly ever post in this forum.
