Cool beans Fitch!
I started off on a ancient Phillips 3 tracker myself. And your little beast looks like a supped up Nagra that sound effects guys would use. The 'gear shift' control to the far right of the front panel looks like your speed selector, and judging by the amount of slots - it must have an incredible array of speeds? Most reelers are 7 1/2ips to 15ips as a generic rule. My eye's aren't so good, but it looks to me like you can crang this beast down to 3ips for 'dictaphone purposes'? That was my bag, 'speed screwing'!
And nothing beats a reel to reel to this day for getting those Les Paul guitar solos by recording at half speed and playing back at 15ips.
Usually the faster speeds yeild the best quality, but if I were you - I'd stick with 7.5ips so you can get the best of both worlds in speed experimentation.

I do miss me old 'crank boxes' even with all this 'new technology' - I'm sure you'll be amazed when you get it going Fitch.

Awesome speed ranges!
And do you know if it has a pitch knob perhaps? You could jack it up to 19.5 or down to 1.9 if that's the case then?
You've inspired me to do a whole new set of playback speeds in WaveLab as well with this little beast of yours. But I still miss the smell of tubes and oxide of the tapes.
Have fun!
