recording notes, CC, and audio at the same time

Hello,
I thought by setting a MIDI track to send to an audio track (instead of MASTER) and then record arming the audio track I could record notes, CC, and the resulting audio at the same time. But, it didn't work. I recorded MIDI but not audio. What is the proper setup?

In the audio track header, you'll see mute, solo, record arm, monitor and set up buttons. Click the set up button. You'll see "Record From".
First, set up your track for recording MIDI, with its rack turning the MIDI into audio.
Next, set up your track for incoming audio, with is rack to process that audio.
Set up a third rack - without a track - and have both of the above send to that rack. Here you can process the mix of track 1 and track 2 before recording.
Add a third track and set its record from to record from the third rack. (This doesn't need a rack, really.)
(There are other ways to do this.)

Hi pljones,
Can you do templayt and post?
To clearly and I also interesting, because routing unclear.
for example: is playing as free(Clip Launcher) recording without the Midi events
(in take)only Launcher plays?
Thank

When you want to record multiple tracks at the same time best to switch off the "Auto Arm".

Hi folks, I appreciate the quick response--but I'm still unable to record audio from my plugins. I'm attaching a ZIP with both a screenshot and the mulab file. Any advice would be appreciated. I have four tracks, 2 for incoming MIDI with VSTs and 2 for the corresponding audio. The MIDI records on both the VST tracks, but no audio records.
You'll notice the "F major" plugin that is forcing the notes into a scale. Eventually, I'd like to record the MIDI output from this plugin rather than the original notes. However, the original notes will work for now.
Thank you,

The attachment is a MuProject that shows audio and rendered MIDI getting mixed and recorded to a new track.
The audio and MIDI here are already in the project -- but, of course, one or both could be arriving "live" on the relevant inputs, so long as the tracks are set up correctly first.

Thank you pljones. I'm able to get your project to record one audio track but not two at the same time. I've tried to recreate your setup and am still not able to record any audio from my VSTs. Of course, I could render the project to audio file, but my goal is to record both MIDI & audio live at the same time. I also do not understand the purpose of your "Track 5". Why not just have two tracks, one that receives MIDI and generates audio and one that receives and records audio?
Do I need to specify an audio file name for each track or is that automatically generated? Do I need to manually set up anything in the modular view? I've verified that "auto arm" is turned off. I'm not sure what else to try.

For each audio source you want to record, you need to set up a track where the source for recording is set appropriately. Have you checked that and made sure each track you want to record audio on is armed to record?
As far as I'm aware, you can only record MIDI to one track at a time (MuLab only has one MIDI source - the MIDI merge of all your MIDI inputs). If you have multiple MIDI channels, you could split this across multiple event recorders in the Session MuX but that starts getting complicated. If there's an easier way, I'm not sure what it is.
Rack 5 is the recording source for the track called "Track 6". It gives a single audio source mixing the audio from "Vintage Swell 1 Rack" (my MIDI track) and "Rack 4" (my audio track). If you add more audio sources, you'd set their racks to output to that common rack if you wanted to record the live mix.

Hi folks! I don't understand why it is necessary, but PLJONES IS CORRECT--we need an extra audio rack that just routes the audio between the MIDI instrument track and the record track if we want to record both at the same time. So, we need:
1. MIDI instrument (VST) track
2. Empty rack
3. Audio Track
Therefore, to record 2 MIDI tracks and their audio at the same time, you need 6 racks. Of course, you can just record the MIDI on two tracks and render the audio later, but I like having a copy of a jam session--just in case I changed a MIDI CC parameter when I wasn't recording and can never find the exact setting again. At least I have a copy of the music from the session!
Attached is a MuLab project showing the only way I got this to work. Maybe there is any easier way? Regardless, if you send MIDI to channel 1 and a different MIDI signal to channel 2 and press record, you should be able to record both MIDI tracks and both audio tracks. I set the MIDI channels for the tracks using "Project" --> "Edit MIDI input channel targets".
Hopefully, someone else will also find this information useful.
