1 Every time i minimize the ui, the scroll with playback nonsense turns back on, and is always on when i restart the software too, how do you fix it ?
2 Editing audio is a complete nightmare, doing something like a simple breakbeat chop on the timeline that would take seconds in any other DAW takes much longer in Tracktion, you cant edit or chop while it plays back because the play cursor is also the edit cursor, snapping is always set to the zoomable grid and quickly becomes a pain, it still uses that archaic "Only move a clip when you are on the top bar" nonsense, so we have a whole clip to grab and we have to grab that silly little bar to move or drag copy, while zoomed out using small clips, this is beyond tiresome and actually comes under the category of "How has the developer not noticed this"
3 The UI is very very laggy even juddery.
4 Auto Tempo has an option to not use timestretch, great for speeding up breakbeats for Drum and Bass and such, it doesn't work, you need to go into loop properties, turn off auto tempo and then alt drag.
5 The MIDI editor panel is always floating and extremely clumsy, minimize tracktion and it is still floating, this may be great for extra monitors, on a laptop it is ridiculously clumsy.
I'm sure there is more, but after an hour of usage i am one step from giving up on the clumsiness of it all, Tracktion used to be slick, what it did it did in simple ways, is Jules even still associated with this thing, he was pretty much the reason i was still updating, but these nonsense issues that are simple fixes (Don't give me that you don't know the code stuff, these are simple fixes) are stopping me from getting on board this time, the new composition stuff had me interested but not while the archaic stuff stays archaic.
Lazer focused on writing music it is not !!

Waveform has only just been released, and many bugs have come to light. I'm sure they're hard at fixing it now, but I'm staying on T7 until then.

As most people haven't mentioned encountering most of what you mention, they may be specific to your set-up.bungle wrote:So these are all bugs ?

Do you mean to say on your machine Waveform switches scrolling back on all by itself after you switched it off? It's certainly not doing that over here.bungle wrote:1 Every time i minimize the ui, the scroll with playback nonsense turns back on, and is always on when i restart the software too, how do you fix it ?

No - I suspect the auto-scroll problem to be pilot-error and I'm not quite sure what the "laggy" and "juddery" (will have to look that one up in a dictionary) UI refers to - the rest is as you say and simply the way it is implemented in Tracktion/Waveform.bungle wrote:So these are all bugs ?

Autoscroll keeps ticking itself when i minimize the ui, that is not pilot error.
The UI is very slow on macbook Air, haven't installed it on windows yet.
The idea that you cant do audio chops/slices while it is playing is just ridiculous, i actually suspected that was pilot error because it is so archaic.
Tracktion just isnt ready for prime time is it.

If by "prime time" you mean "bungle" then I guess not. The number of times I've wanted to chop audio during playback is zero in about 15 years.bungle wrote:Tracktion just isnt ready for prime time is it.
By the way, are you sure the MIDI editor is always floating? I thought that was an optional thing. I've only downloaded the demo. Haven't had time to run it through its paces, but it looked to me like the MIDI editor has its set place and can also float free.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

It only floats here on osx, can't find any way to dock it, and prime time I mean compete with the more established hosts, miniscule grab area on items, and yes cut while playback (extremely commonly used) both of which are twee, while I'm British and enjoy twee now and then, lazer focused on writing music it is not (or whatever they say)pough wrote:If by "prime time" you mean "bungle" then I guess not. And to be honest I find it absurd that anybody would suggest otherwise, even if they personally don't slice items much on the timeline, audio cutting for dance beats alone is as common as MIDI nowadays.

There is a little icon above the keyboard on the MIDI editor. It docks and un-docks the MIDI editor.
I just turned of auto-scrolling and it stayed off for me after minimizing as well as shutting Waveform down and starting back up again.

On OSX ?
I may have to try a fresh install.
Edit*
Sorry i read back and im not clear on it, my fault, by docking the MIDI editor, i meant when it is full screen, having it docked on a tab like the mixer does.

I remember when Traction first apeared, and remember when it dissapeared...It is sad because it was very promissing and still is very good DAW but maybe too colorfull to be taken seriously by majority of musicians/producers

Nonetheless, these are issues that clearly bother you, and clearly don't bother other people. Which suggests it doesn't suit you. It's equally absurd to say that what you don't like should be important to everybody else.bungle wrote: to be honest I find it absurd that anybody would suggest otherwise, even if they personally don't slice items much on the timeline, audio cutting for dance beats alone is as common as MIDI nowadays.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of the two bugs reported here but I'm having trouble reproducing them.
1) Docking/sizing of MIDI editor
As has been previously mentioned, the pin icon in the top left docks/undocks the MIDI editor. Once undocked you should be able to make the editor the full size of the screen and put it on an external monitor etc.
It doesn't behave the same way as a Mixer tab because it can't really be run on its own. You still need the arrange window open to select clips etc. to edit. On contrast however, you may well want to load an Edit as a Mixer tab and never have to deal with the arrangement whilst mixing etc.
2) Strange scroll button behaviour
I assume by "autoscroll" you are referring to the button with "Scroll" on it next to the master fader (assuming you're using the full bottom panel, not the minimal transport bar)? I need to check this because there are several other scroll options located under the "Options" button then "Scroll behaviour".
Whatever I seem to do to the screen, resize, maximize, fullscreen etc. the "Scroll" button stays in the same toggle state.
If I can replicate this, it's probably an easy fix.
The other issues here are things we are discussing but would be major paradigm shifts and extremely non-trivial to implement so it's unlikely they'll be changed any time soon unfortunately.

I think he was merely referring to the fact, that MIDI-editor window doesn't behave as sub-windows typically behave (on Windows, OSX and Linux) in that it can neither be maxi- nor minimized and subsequently always stays open, even if Waveform's main window is minimized.dRowAudio wrote:I'm trying to get to the bottom of the two bugs reported here but I'm having trouble reproducing them.

While you can dock the MIDI-Editor you then lose the functionality of using all (or even just the majority) of the available screen estate for editing (which is - besides the new mixer - one of the main attractions of the T8/Waveform upgrade).
