T's sampler

hi
i'm a long time T user, but have never used its sampler (never needed one). now that there are some interesting samples around (hollowsun for instance) I'm going to either get me one or use T's native.
What's your opinion on this?
Are there useful free or cheap samplers (I did a search on kvr and haven't found anything I'd like)?
k
(short circuit is fine, but will be costly).

Biggest drawback to the Tracktion sampler is the lack of velocity layers. It's nice to play with for ease of use, but velocity layers are a big miss if you're trying to create "real" sounding drums, for example. The difference in sound you get from tapping the edge of a crash cymbal, or really smashing it.
RGC's freebie soundfont players is kind of a sampler, and worth having if just for the amount of free soundfonts (or various quality) there are out there;

And Muon do the DS404, which you get free on the cover of an issue of Computer Music magazine, but isn't available for download. The interface is a bit clunky, as it emulates a hardware box, so it's got a few quirks, but it's surprisingly powerful
Info (but no download) is here;

What platform are you on?
Energy xt looks great but, like the others listed in this thread, seem to lack mac support. Vsamp is decent. There may be others. There are also wrappers to use au effects and a couple of utilities to route signals around. OSXaudio.com is a good source.
Even if you're using a pc, some mac users may read the thread and wonder what their options are. Tracktion's sampler will see a revision in the next version. It's on Jules to-do list. Velocity layers and other features have been talked about for nearly a year. I'm sure the update will be significant.

Second vote for sfz. Its is actually a very capable sampleplayer. It just lacks a gui. But you can make your own *.sfz files easily enough. Ive made a couple of post on it in the sample forum the past few weeks.

Look for sfz buddy on this page to get more control on the effects:

thanks
I'm on PC. I don't really want to go into soundfonts, simple .wav import would do, so I guess I'll wait for the T2's sampler.
Weird there isn't more samplers actually.
k
XT is way too complicated. will jorgen's sampler be a vsti or xt's native format?

SFZ isnt only for soundfonts!
You can load wavs, mp3, oggs and aiff directly. And like I mentioned you can use the SFZ format which allows you to control all parameters from a text file.
Take a look at these percussion samples for an example:

I've not bothered with it because it doesn't read like it supports velocity layers - is that wrong? Does it?

Looks nice though, kind of cheery and Fisher Price, which appeals to me sometimes. Might grab a copy to have a play after all
