Current distortion module is pretty great.

I thought it would be a good time for it to fully succeed the old Shaper modules.
There's nothing 'wrong' with it, I just like how easy it is to overdrive the Hive distortion and get a very "warm" (to my ears anyways) sound. It's probably just a matter of -opinion- when you get right down to it, but my opinion is that the Hive distortion works way better with synth sounds is all, and I'd love to have it in Zebra.
Added : Yeah, I am no fan of the Shaper....I think the only mode I ever end up using is Wedge, and even it is too harsh to just use without filtering or eq-ing or both after it. Well, and the bit crusher, but that's only good for a couple specific sounds usually, again, compared to the Hive distortion, which I find sooooo much more useful over a w i d e range of sounds.

Yeah, the olden shapers must go...
I currently have this thing in my head about giving the new noise modules an optional input mode which lets those act as decimators and stuff. Not yet certain as to where this goes.

I vote for ditching Shaper and Folder modules in Z3 and adding bit reduction and foldback modes to Distortion module. I don't like having to swap out modules in the signal path often while experimenting (same goes for XMF vs VCF).

Very good point about swap out and XMF/VCF.karrikuh wrote:I don't like having to swap out modules in the signal path often while experimenting (same goes for XMF vs VCF).
One might argue that bitcrusher could be used in after osc before distortion but XMF/VCF is indeed very strange usability decision.

I had planned to merge VCF and XMF... concerns were CPU of course, but I think I have found a good solution.
@karrikuh, what do you mean by Folders? Wavefolders are just coming in in 2.8 and they have a completely different user interface. They also argueably have a different application, even if they could act as distortion. Foldback distortion (from shapers or XMF) otoh might indeed be better placed in Distortion module.

Yes, I mean the forth-coming wavefolder. Having only briefly demoed Jaws in Repro-1, my understanding is that it's essentially a complex waveshaper and thus a kind of distortion. Given the vastly different set of parameters compared to the existing distortion modes, however, you might be right that merging them might not be such a great idea after all.Urs wrote:@karrikuh, what do you mean by Folders? To tackle the issue (including the VCF/XMF duplicity) maybe from a different angle: have you considered my earlier suggestion (also for Z2.8 ) to add a "Replace by..." constext sub-menu to the slots in the routing view? Reducing the effort for swapping out modules to just two clicks would be a big improvement in my opinion.

Thanks, I added "Replace by..." to the todo list. There's a whole lot of things we want to do, such as quick duplication and copy/paste style things.

...and perhaps some keyboard modifiers in the grid? Alt+click to remove a module, for example. Ctrl+drag to copy+increment.
(BTW grammatically correct would be "Replace with...", just like Lfo should be LFO

Right now I work around it by find&replacing in the DLLsUrs wrote:That's on top of the list.EvilDragon wrote:Lfo should be LFO

I haven't seen that one coming.maki wrote:Uhbik-g Module?![]()

I may have asked this before but... any chance of a feedback module in Z3? Just a way to get signals back to the top of the grid, if you know what I mean. I do this with Zebrify by feeding the outputs back to the inputs (using host routing) but it would be nice to do this within a patch.
