Well, I'm glad that instead of focusing on that, they've focused on adding VST support. In future, I'd rather they focus on improving blocks workflow. I don't see drag and drop midi as that big of a deal, but that's just me.incubus wrote:Some time? It was an issue 2 and a half years ago. Time? Even though I use some of those kinds of tools, not having midi drag and drop is certainly no big deal to me. I'm hugely excited to be able to use the Reason sequencer with some of my favorite plugins for certain kinds of music.
Now damn it, give me the beta already!
Next Propellerhead Reason upgrade (9.5) to include VST support

Oh no, I get that. I have a few tools that work that way including a couple of ToonTrack products among others. I'm just saying that I think that it's still a low priority. I'll gladly give up drag and drop today if it meant the difference in using any VSTs. In fact, I hope they prioritize on getting VSTs working in Rewire mode, and making midi VSTs work before they focus on drag and drop.incubus wrote:Like was said, having ezdrummer and not having drag/drop is like having a yacht with a hole built in the middle.

So, true story.. it's been a while since I bought some VST's. I think the last one I bought was VPS Avenger. Anyway, I can't remember the experience being as frustrating as it was until I picked up Output's Exhale and Rev. First, you buy it in their store. Then you have to install their Steam-like delivery service app. Then you have to wait for it to download (which takes a laughably long time, even though their servers aren't far from me geographically). Then you have to make sure Kontakt (or Kontakt Player) is installed. And then you have to go through this convoluted act of pointing to files, logging in, activate, and then rebuild the library save.
JESUS F*&KING CHIRST MAN.
Reason's Rack Extensions absolutely rules this process, hands down, and anyone here who denies that is either being disingenuous or is smoking crack. Or both.

Anyway, back to your regular programming!
I'll say this much - I'm happy as shit that Reason supports VST now. I just wish it wasn't so convoluted to get some.

So Reasons Racks rules a crappy install process that you happened to find ?EnochLight wrote:/begin rant

Get over yourself, 90% of VST are drag file to VST folder, done.

Again, this is why we'd prefer people to keep beta information inside the beta. We're still hoping to fix that during beta, or shortly after.Grumbleweed wrote:It doesn't work like you want it to workmemyselfandus wrote:Can someone confirm if drag n drop midi works? Lots of people asking.

I still do most of my work in Reason, but in the past few years I've been bouncing stuff to and from Studio One so as to use VSTs. The fact is, there is a plethora of awesome sound libraries and instruments that were clearly never going to make it to the RE platform. Personally, I'm really bloody glad to see PH opening Reason up rather than maintaining a "REs or nothing" attitude for the sake of it.

Not really, but i don't quite see the point either. Installation is usually as easy as it gets. No offense, but, mentioning that as an advantage of RE's is a bit of a desperate argument. Noone complains that software in general has to be installed either. It's an inevitable thing. And guess what, VST's can even be resold, opposed to RE's.bungle wrote:So Reasons Racks rules a crappy install process that you happened to find ?EnochLight wrote:/begin rant

I know the props site mentions that the 9.5 beta is open to Reason AND Reason Essentials users, but can anyone confirm that the VST implementation will be identical in Reason Essentials? Won't be gimped in any way?

I can't show you anything solid, but, the way i understood it, it is identical. Yes, the Props are crazy letting you pimp up Essentials with all those VST goodies.RoryM0 wrote:I know the props site mentions that the 9.5 beta is open to Reason AND Reason Essentials users, but can anyone confirm that the VST implementation will be identical in Reason Essentials? Only thing i see lacking is the support of VST Midi plugins (which is a bit sad, as Essentials doesn't feature an arpeggiator too).
