Obviously, they have the plans for VST support in the drawer now for many, many years. And didn't consider it a great idea, until the new investor picked things up. So, it's most likely they didn't "listen to the users", but to the investor.
While I see your point I'd like to add that companies are comprised of many individuals who often disagree on ideas or roadmaps. It could also be that the executives didn't like the idea while one or more of the techies did. I've seen quite a few companies where the engineering team is fantastic and are often at odds with upper management. It could be that with this buyout the people at the top aren't at the top anymore.

Politics aside, I'm just happy that VSTs are coming to Reason. It's convinced me upgrade for the first time in 4 years. I'm excited about using Zebra, Omnisphere, Diva, and uTonic in the rack, routing it through reason devices and out to Valhalla reverbs. This is something I've wanted to do ever since I discovered computer production tools.
Feel free to call me Brian.

Absolutely. I do sound design for Audio Imperia, and a lot of the producers and sound designers I know have been asking how I'm getting some of those sounds. When I tell them it's Reason, they're super interested. When I tell them they've gotta re-buy or discard their plugin collection...less so

So it's a good move, regardless of the motivations or politics behind it. Personally I couldn't be happier. Komplete in Reason? The dreeeeeaaam.

Yeah, maybe it's also just that some of us, me included of course, are just overreacting about the whole thing a little, and simply need to wait and see, how it works out for Reason and Propellerhead. But, you know how it is... it's hectic times, and we're all bored, so, there needs to be some drama. :P

That's probably the case. And let's hope that there are not too many negative changes internally that start messing with the creativity and drive of the staff.

Don't need unhappy and less caring coders starting to put out buggy code. Reason has been pretty damn stable so far.

I may stick a few Zebralettes and filters into a combinator and see what happens... :)

Speaking of fanboys, here's one now.

What exactly is your point? Propellerhead are crooks. Liars, charlatans and crooks. This isn't a recent development, which is why the changing of the guard is going to be so refreshing. Nor is my view of them changed in four years. Are you praising my consistency in evaluating Propellerheads?
If so, thank you. I couldn't have done it of they weren't so reliavly terrible as a business ! But luckily thats all changing... Verdane will sweep out everything that's held development back for all these years and make Reason great again !
The point is that you seem to be out on a personal crusade against individuals working for PH and that is very small minded.

chk071 wrote:Propellerhead had a great concept with Reason, until people expected more, more, and more from the software. And it went from a software with a great concept, and something which worked, to a patchwork software, because they listened to users (and obviously business also went down, otherwise the recent course isn't explainable). Now it's a Frankenstein DAW, which always was scary to even open, because i was used to pre-version 5 Reason, which was a very simple, and organized program. Now, i don't even know where to start, because it's so convoluted and bloated. .

I get what you're saying, but I just don't see it being anywhere near as bad as you make it out to be. Convoluted and bloated? I feel like that describes pretty much every other DAW under the sun! When I open Reason, those are the last words that cross my mind. But, as you said - you were used to working in Reason 5 (which was functionally no different than version 1.0)...

Perhaps it the 6.0/Record integration (that caused it to actually become a DAW) that's your issue? If so, it's unlikely you'll ever feel that it is no longer convoluted and bloated. It's only going to get more convoluted and bloated over time, by your metric.

There's nothing wrong with that - it's just that you prefer Reason when it wasn't a DAW and instead just a self-contained group of sandboxed plugins with its own sequencer. I can respect that.
Win 10 | Ableton Live 11 Suite | Reason 13 | i7 3770 @ 3.5 Ghz | 16 GB RAM | RME Babyface Pro| Akai MPC Live 3 & Akai Force | Roland System 8 | Roland TB-3 | Roland MX-1 | Dreadbox Typhon | Korg Minilogue XD

It certainly is a measure of a corporate entity's success at brainwashing the brand-loyal when one criticizes the COMPANY and that person criticizing becomes the subject of PERSONAL attacks.

They have caught you, buddy. Hook, line & sinker. If ever there were a subset of society that could be considered 'closed minded' it would be the Propellerhead devotees that refuse to accept the awful truth and will throw themselves over hot coals to defend the honour of a company and its staff who don't give a damn about their 'tribe'

Praise the Lord. Respect from a guy who is incapable of working out how to use the world's most common plugin format, and litters the internet with complaints about VST shortcomings, rather than his own comprehension challenges. Mister 'it will never happen' has given you his blessing !

My main DAW is Logic, and sometimes Cubase so I cant call myself loyal to the brand Propellerhead (but I use Reason Essentials on my laptop when have some time to fool around for fun).

I find it very strange to read your comments against not Ph, but rather individuals working for the company... Like for example:

"Don't ask Ansou. With any luck (for Reason customers) him and the whole team of dead wood will be out the door before version 10."

"Get the pasty old CEO out the door, along with that brain damaged bearded goose, the American show pony, the almost-mute customer service staff and all the other dead wood,..."

also your habbit of calling people idiots for using tools, in what ever creative way..." My point is that Reason are making devices for idiots who don't even wan't to try to compose a piece."

You seem to place yourself above the rest of us.

VST in Reason is maybe good, maybe not, but it is progress and most people see that as something good.

This is a tough week for him. Props are eliminating the most major legitimate beef against using Reason. Soon there will be less people for him to drink the hatorade with here on kvr. Which makes it harder for him to pursue his personal vendetta.

Nope. Your'e clearly not following. I *exclusively* use Reason for my own projects. And I welcome the new owners, precisely because it means that everything that sucked about Propellerhead will soon come to an end. The sooner they push the CEO out the door after the obligatory retainer period (common in corporate takeovers) and his cronies who have been riding the bludger train are exposed as the valueless employees they are, Reason users will start to see some serious advancements.

It won't happen in a week, as you surmise, but I have all the patience in the world, and am comfortable in the view that finally the company will be on track for viable advancements rather than drip-fed updates based around the ego of one man and his loyal (but useless) yes-men.

Please pay attention before posting irrelevant comments, because your statement is entirely off the mark.

Damn dude why are you so angry? I use Reason exclusively as well. Yeah I've been frustrated by some aspects of it too but ya know, it's not my business. If it ever became a huge problem for me I'd just go elsewhere. It's just businesses being businesses. No need for some conspiracy about some evil crony CEO and an army of yes-men and forum moderators on payroll.

Criticising the company is totally fine. Suggesting that Ernst has mentally retarded relatives designing devices, or that they're pandering to your definition of "idiots" or accusing people of being secret PH shills isn't criticising the company. They're kind of personal attacks. You don't know how PH works internally. You don't know how Verdane works. None of us does. It's funny how as soon as the news came out, everyone became an investment expert  Fact is, Reason got some really good news in 9.5. Make a cup of tea. Dial it down from 11. Enjoy Reason now, and even more on May 29th. Everything will be fine.

Post

And btw I've got a list as long as, erm, a small child's arm of features and suggestions for Reason. As I'm sure most of us do. Always room for improvement. But you're way more likely to get that by engaging with their representatives who are choosing to come here on their own time rather than telling them they should get sacked. Let's have a little positivity yeah...hug it out.

Post

Agreed. Some GREAT news indeed. A corporate buyout and VSTs coming. These are some of the best times in the history of Reason, and its all due to the removal of the CEO and his notions of advancements for the platform.
