btw, Athlon64 systems are really not all that expensive as long as you're staying away from the fastest processors. I recently put an Athlon64 system together not so much because I needed the power but because we needed a new computer here at the office & it didn't cost much more to put it together than it would to have put a slower Intel system together. To contrast, I'm still using a PIII 550 with 192mb ram as my personal office machine.

Bah, if you had read my post, you would have seen that in fact I WOULD recommend an Athlon64. That's the processor I plan to get next.

Bite my VS880! 
I guess the point I was trying to make is that, with that upgrade, I really didn't need the extra power (my 2 year old P4 2.4 has usually been fine for the way I work) but just did it because it didn't make sense not to.

Yeah, there's no reason for people getting a new computer to NOT get the Athlon64 or an equivalent Pentium, unless their entire intention is to get the absolute minimum.

Guys have you ever tried to run impulse reverbs on top of synths say like the Korg Legacy and Emu X..... 3400 Athlon 64 still is only as half powerfull as I need. Working at 96khz kills my machine, but it's the only way vsti's sound anything like there analog counterparts.
I really could do with twice the power, a 2ghz P4 would die half way through one of my songs. Yes yu could say I should structure my songs better, but I've been doing this a long tie now, and it's as streamlined as it can.....
