The Beatles. You know, that overrated little combo that had a few obscure hits in the 60s and that didn't influence anyone of note.
Seriously, Britpop was, as I recall it, a 90s thing. Some see The La's as the advent of Britpop. Great album, by the way.
My favs at the time were Supergrass and Blur.

I think you finally have managed to hit the nail on the headI suppose those Indians think Duran Duran is Brit Pop for the same reason as I do, namely because it is pop music from Britain
