Reveal Sound have been teasing for a LONG time to release Spire as a Rack Extension. It gets launched yesterday in the Propellerhead shop (in which they take a hefty commission of all sales). A plethora of bugs are discovered by buyers & triallers such as it being OUT OF TUNE (FFS this is supposed to be a high end musical instrument), CPU overload on automation parameters, plus parameters that aren't even automatable, a front screen artwork that still says 'Preview Model' or something along those lines, bugger-all CV on the back.

The whole inception of a closed-loop model for plugins and a store exclusively controlled by Propellerheads was for reliability. I have to ask the question.. IS ANYONE AT PROPELLERHEADS EVEN TESTING NEW RE'S FOR VIABILITY ???

In this case, clearly they are not.

This mess is yet another example of the poor quality of staff. Heads should roll, people need to be fired. It's long overdue. And the problem starts not with the lowest paid workers, but those who manage them. Ernst is on the way out regardless, but every single MANAGER there needs to be given the boot. They've faked their way into positions with a smile and a BJ, but the jig is up. Get them all the hell out, and then Reason may actually move in a positive direction at a pace that is reasonable instead of these drip-fed releases.

And guess who's been all over Spire like crabs on a hooker's gooch ? The company's dearest darling Enochlight, who hasn't said 'boo' about this release being a PROPELLERHEAD screw up as much, nay MORE than Reveal Sounds'. Maybe to a tone-deaf user, an out of tune synth is OK, even though at full price it was set to be one of the most expensive REs in the entire store.

Don't make such a drama of it. Afaik this is the first time ever that something like this happened. Normally everything works like a charm when buying Rack Extension (except for downloading the big sample based ones which can be a bit tedious at times). Given the circumstances of the release and the quick withdrawal i'd say shit happens, fix it and we are ok.

No idea. He's got issues, for sure. He's been banned multiple times before. Getting banned at KVR is pretty hard to do apparently, though. *shrugs*

That's just not true. That 'Red71' RE was a mess when it was put in the store for sale. There was an Ochen K. RE that was also quite a disaster, for a 'ready to release' product. People speak of odd harmonics (or something) playing guitar through the now-defunct Line6 sim. As far as I know, there's a U-He plugin that's flawed as well. Something also in the 'That Music Company' range was also off.

The list goes on.

Spire sounds like the worst, most sloppy release of all time, and it's because the keepers of the shopfront aren't quality-testing the devices that they flog in their store. It defies the whole concept of a trusted closed loop plugin format that many of us have thrown money into (full disclosure, I have a moderate craptonne of 'paid-for' RE's).

But if Props were to continue with their total disregard for platform-testing third-party Rack Extensions (hello.. SPIRE), then it only serves to show us that they don't give a crap about the rock solid concept anymore.

And now the door is open to VST. Bring on the future, hey.

Chances are that you own either an Iphone, or a phone with the Android OS. And oh boy there are a lot of crappy and buggy apps available in the Apple Store as well as the Google Play Store. Do you hate every single person working for Apple and Google for not testing the apps thoroughly?

I'm not an 'App Guy' apart from the essential convenient installs. No Pokemon on my phone.

The most I 'plug in' to a platform is with Reason.

Which in itself has always been dodgy as hell. Their EULA & ToS for Rack Extensions was very dubious.

Select high end VST plugins will be sold in the Prop Shop. That'how they will implement it.

Well, that should only be a forum for those who know how to install a VST. But it won't stop the self-proclaimed experts banging on about it. Much like everybody's all "SDK SDK', when there could not possibly a fraction of the reader base that understands the first thing about coding.

I wonder how much the Serum VST will be when it debuts in the Prop shop? I'm speculating it will be heavily discounted, to get people talking about how they've integrated Codemeter/Authorizer as a solid anti cracking security measure for VST. It may actually turn out to be the single most clever thing old Ernie has pulled out of his hat.

It's a shame they've been sitting on it for six years..........

Next Propellerhead Reason upgrade (9.5) to include VST support
