Hehe thanks for the ideas folks, but if I learned something over the years, it's that if something is not totally brutally obvious, many will struggle to find it or not even know it is there. So keyboard shortcuts and stuff won't be an option. Eventually the "keep the basic ones" won, not by much, but I agree with it, it will be easier and will be as obvious as it can be.

Damn... but some of the things like gate etc. could use it too... maybe the optional locks (a switch) would be best after all... grrrr...

Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

...please consider the "push knob to change state/indication" GUI convention option. There are lots of ways it could be done without using the keyboard. And
once established as a convention for Melda I can see how it would be very useful across the board

"Display Locks" is a brilliant solution!

...agreed "Display Locks" works very well
...however
...when the display is "off" there is no indication of a controller's status...could we get maybe the locked "image" on the "cap" top?

My thought: if the locks are not displayed then they are ignored. Show them and you will see which ones are locked and which ones are open. No need for anything-else.
So
(a) Display locks,
(b) Experiment with the Active Presets / Randomisation,
(c) lock / unlock the padlocks,
(d) Hide the locks (at which point their status is ignored).

steve: What do you mean by that exactly?
darkstar: You mean disable them all when they get hidden?

Sounds a bit advanced but I follow. That would prevent parameters being locked without the user knowing it (in case locks are not displayed). However it also means that all locks would have to be displayed even if only one or two locks are active, right?

Sort of - keep the lock state for each lock (so that they are displayed correctly when 'Display locks' is enabled) but but treat them all as unlocked.MeldaProduction wrote:steve: What do you mean by that exactly?

So, a parameter will only be Locked when the locks are displayed AND the lock is locked
Yes, to my thinking: all the locks (both locked and unlocked) would be displayed when 'Display locks' is enabled.Soarer wrote:Sounds a bit advanced but I follow. My thought goes back to several "like" suggestions made above. If a parameter has a locked state, and the "display locks" is set to "off:not-displayed," then any change of presets would make/allow for the parameter's state to become ambiguous. Was it meant to be that way? Or was it locked?steve2KVR wrote:...agreed "Display Locks" works very well...however

Solution? Always have "display locks" set to "ON:displayed." Which puts us back where we started.
...so how about putting/displaying a small "locked" image on the knob cap/top if the parameter is infact "locked"...hth...

-1. What image would you use? A small padlock? And I do not think that such an image can be super-imposed on another. IF so then they would need to appear to the top and right of the parameter (as at present).
It might be possible to 'grey out' any locked control.
But, hold on ... the only times that the locks work is when changing from one Active Preset to another or when Randomizing the parameters. Surely, in both scenarios you would want to see which parameters COULD be locked? You would want to see all the locks, so that you could enable/disable any of them. When done, you would just turn off "Display locks" and carry on.
And in my approach, the locks are lockable / active ONLY when "Display locks" is enabled.
----------------------
But if three states are needed, then perhaps the control needs three states (a drop-down list selector?):
"Display locks", "Hide locks" and the new one "Display active locks"
It might be possible to 'grey out' any locked control.

Sure, ... I think U-he's approach is working fine, but I understand if the graphic framework here is diffirent and super-impose a image don't work.DarkStar wrote: It might be possible to 'grey out' any locked control.
My main issue is the space all the lock icon takes
Well, I am for Equal Rights for All Parameters... so in my utopia that wouldn't be a problem because all parameters would be lock-able.DarkStar wrote:Surely, in both scenarios you would want to see which parameters COULD be locked?
In the end I am just glad to get more locks regardless, there are way too many plugins in my folder that doesn't have even the most basic lock function. Allthough I do prefer the U-he solution of them all i've seen so far...
