With all due respect I don't think this is your call to make. Both you and Enoch seem to be deeply emotionally invested in this topic where others just want to discuss 9.5 before it arrives in a few weeks.KarmaShaman wrote:That said, I think you can lock this thread.

Hehehe. I was thinking 'Disney princess' foe a while. Anyway back to Reason. Have you ever been a regular paid user, chk071? I get the impression you are not - but you are on this thread as a regular.chk071 wrote:Um... am i watching the wrong movie here?KarmaShaman wrote: That said, I think you can lock this thread. If so, whats stopped you from using Reason, and of its VST, is this likely to see you on the platform?
Reason really is like no other in the way it does things. There's still a way to go, like doing something about the absolutely terrible audio editing in the sequencer (no biggie, for my paid gigs I use Reaper for that) but the whole rack stacking and rewiring (if you choose to, its not required as many items auto route) is very good. And as you have read countless times, stability is king. I think I have had one corrupted project out of over 1,000 and only two or three crashes (not including those that occur from Proellerheads piece of shit hardware interface, of which the filthy dogs now refuse to support and have washed their hands of) that crashes my computer often. Not Reasons problem per se though

You may wish to go through and look at my initial posts here. They were 100% on topic until... well what the f**k ever. This is becoming boring.bmrzycki wrote:With all due respect I don't think this is your call to make. Ive attempted to get this thread back on track numerous times. How about YOU give it a shot too, hey, instead of remaining in the swamp that he's created?
Really you do not need to reply to this if its not Reason related.
So.... Reason !

Glad I am off PC DAWs for the time being. I closed the deal at Reason 6.5. Bought a few REs but managed to control the GAS. Now it doesn't matter. For my needs Reason has become just another clusterfucked PC DAW with too many options and third party temptations as any other. I would have preferred it as a closed system with upgrades adding new free modules. But that is just me. REs have already served many and people have screamed for VST support for a decade. Now it is near, good for them. As usual when one favorite hate issue is resolved by PH, the haters just move on to new issues. Such people are obviously more interested in buying DAWs to have something to whine about that takes attention away from their inabilities to use it. What a waste of life, oxygen and cyberspace. But that is a trivial point, so carry on by all means.

I'm just here to discuss 9.5 before it arrives in a few weeks as well. How am I deeply emotionally invested more than anyone else here?bmrzycki wrote:Both you and Enoch seem to be deeply emotionally invested in this topic where others just want to discuss 9.5 before it arrives in a few weeks.

Mate, move it along. A mod has politely asked us both to reign it in, so let's honour that shall we ?EnochLight wrote:I'm just here to discuss 9.5 before it arrives in a few weeks as well. ** WARNING - REASON TOPIC POST BELOW **
@kmonkey - has your query been addressed to your satisfaction ? I took a look at that video from 0:50 and I suspect it's a convoluted way to do what you want, but I'm not sure it's the fastest. While Reason is fantastic for the back-panel manual routing magic, sometimes it's not necessary, and there are several ways to achieve goals (which is what I love about the DAW - it suits everyone's style of working)

So this solution is still a 'combinator' I suppose. Maybe we can call it the 'track combinator' rather than the 'utility combinator' that we will be looking at in this post. For all intents and purposes, I will refer to this simply as a combinator. And if I'm understanding you, this process takes only a handful of clicks. I'll walk you through this thing I just whipped up:kmonkey wrote: Is there a way to save chain of devices and reload them from the browser in to project - WITHOUT using combinator.
Example - i have kickdrum channel. I add few devices. I like processing chain. I want to save it for using in other projects.
1. Create a new instrument track and add some FX
2. Save the patch.
3. In your mixer, create a BUS for that track by right clicking above the colored description tag
4. Back to the rack, load the FX patch you created in step 2 in to the BUS combinator

5. Now on your instrument track combinator, right click an empty space to bring up the menu, and select 'reset device'.
6. You can remove whatever FX you had in your instrument combinator that was already saved as a patch, and now add your own new FX specific to that instrument
So now you can toggle between the BUS FX on/off as you choose. If you wish to have subsequent instruments treated with your FX patch, simply add those new instruments to the mixer BUS
No back wiring/routing involved, and it takes less than 30 seconds.
Here is an sample Reason file illustrating the outcome of the steps above.

I just got newsletter from props.
There will be scheduled Facebook stream.
Reason 9.5 live stream - this Thursday May 11th at 6pm CEST (9am Pacific, 12pm Eastern).
So we can see more VST action
Mattias and Ryan are back on the air for a Facebook live stream this Thursday! We’ll be experimenting with VSTs in the Reason rack and exploring this new world of modular patching with VST effects and instruments.
Weeeeee

Reason does not support MIDI drag and drop to existing tracks. Or import to existing tracks. You can import midi but to another empty track with Reason midi player which will be created automatically.v1o wrote:What is thatmemyselfandus wrote:Another 7 years for proper midi import??
Apparently people (my self included) want Reason to work with this as every other DAW out there which is simple drag and drop to track or import to track. But i think there is too much drama in this.
There is a workaround. You can drop it in session and it will create another track with Reason midi player device. Then after that you can move clip to your existing track (where you wanted to drag and drop it or to import it in the first place but you where not able to do so).
AFAIK PH staff employee reported in this thread something about they are working on it so i don't see what's fuss about it?
There is a workaround until then. So calm down.
To me much higher priority would be Reason option to accept MIDI from other VST instruments inside rack (read you can not use VST arps, sequencers, send midi out from VST drum machines to reason devices etc.) - something which is not available in 9.5 update but who know maybe they will add it upcoming updates

BlueCat PatchWork
stores the open/close states of the contained plugins if its closed and can reopen them(so not f*k your workflow completely), I've not found better solution for MIDI routing
