Mulab for orchestral music?

In my opinion: yes
I do orchestral like music, but don't use too deep midi-editing (only volume, velocity and sometimes a special one). I used the Windows-Version of emagic Logic 5.5 before, bur as it's dated from 2003 I had to change. So I tested quite a few DAWs before I decided for MuLab. Although I'd wish for some improvements (see 2017-composers-wishes in this forum), MuLab seems to be the most worry-free DAW. It's easy to handle. MuLab has very powerful sound- and routing-possibilities, but "under the hood". So you may make use of it if you need it, but don't have to hassle with that, if not.
First I thought, I will miss notation. But for composing the midi editor is more useful and for a nice printout I use the free MuseScore.

The only thing which might be an issue wrt orechestral composition is that there only is one time signature per composition. That might change in some future version but it's not yet planned on short term.

For complex orchestral compositions in piano-roll notation I use exclusively RapidComposer (used as a VST orchestra conductor)... in Mulab! Rapid Composer is the most powerful composition editor (in piano-roll notation) for the real use of the rules of harmony and counterpoint, the catalog of chord cadences, the signature changes, etc. and providing even the catalog of the scales of all the planet for traditional music, jazz music, classical and romantic music, etc. but also for the foreign orchestral rules of composition (orchestral Arabic Maqam rules, orchestral Jewish and Yiddish (klezmer) rules, orchestral Indian rules, orchestral Chinese and Japanese rules, etc). In the occidental baroque (Vivaldi, Bach, Lully...), romantic (Debussy, Schubert...) and classical (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven...) musics, as well as for the modern cinematic compositions (for movie soundtracks for example) it is by far the best VST tool using the piano-roll notation.
I have made a short video (18 seconds) to show you the scales featured by RapidComposer: And a little video (2mn 30s) to show you the common chord progressions featured by RapidComposer (you can of course add yours): I have made a short video (42 seconds) to show you the variation tools (on notes, on measures, on phrases, on whatever you want) in RapidComposer v3 featured by RapidComposer (you can of course record yours as "presets" in a library) and which are TRUE tools made to compose (don't think that they are not made to compose for you as in Band In A Box, even if you can use these tools to suggest you the variations you could make, here it is YOU who is the real composer note by note): And here is a picture of an example of the palette of chords at a given instant (using Mozart harmonic rules), the table depending where you are in the composition and what is the key of this part of your composition:
For complex orchestral compositions in traditional notation I use exclusively Sibelius and a tool which is totally unknown at KVR: Harmony Assistant (a bit deeper overview here) which both are somewhat equivalent to RapidComposer but for the traditional notation.
And for all the rest, modern music not orchestral, even complex modern music, I always use the built-in features of Mulab, and sometimes Sundog Studio, but more often it is Mulab. The problem with Mulab (but Jo can't do everything, he is a humble man, and in addition he develops alone) is that it doesn't provide the tools for the chord progressions, for the circle of fifths, for the counterpoint rules, for the management of sections in a composition, etc. We must not forget that Mulab's purpose is to be a DAW. With all the elementary tools (thanks Jo!) to compose modern music and quite simple classical music (chamber music for example) but it will never have the purpose to compete with complex orchestral composition tools. It is not its domain, and Jo is kind to stay focused on the purpose of Mulab: to be the best DAW ever. We should never forget that the symbiosis within the tools having each one its specialty is the best thing to search for, it allows to combine the best composition tool with the best instrument plugins (including Mux) and the best effect plugins in the best DAW.
RapidComposer used as VST in Mulab is absolutely GREAT ! It brings to Mulab all the powerful features of the real orchestral composition tools. Just have a glance at these tutorial videos (here for advanced users, but there are also tons of videos for beginners) made by our KVR friend Nevzat Yıldırım to show how to use RapidComposer in orchestral compositions. And you have in this example a quick overview of what you can reach (with talent of course, Nevzat Yıldırım is a professional composer):

I let you imagine the power of RapidComposer used as VST using downstream the module MIDI Channel splitter featured in Mulab to drive all the instruments.
The combination of RapidComposer and Mulab is the best symbiosis you could ever dream to make true orchestral compositions, each one being the best in its own domain and the first one working perfect as VST in the second one which will in downstream (thank to the MIDI Channel Splitter of Mulab) spread all the parts into the dedicated instruments or racks.

A few years ago I had shown the most elementary step: how to drive several VST instruments with RapidComposer in Mutools Mulab. It was using the version 2 of RapidComposer and the version 5 of Mulab but fondamentaly everything remains the same today with the version 3 of RapidComposer and the version 7 of Mulab:
To transform your Mulab in a full orchestra is that way. Thus you can take benefit of all the incredibly comprehensive features of RapidComposer for the composition itself and for the role of Orchestra Conductor... and of all the equally effective features of Mulab in its domain of the management of the orchestra itself.

Thanks
and where can this program download?
I had put the link in the text, behind the underlined word "RapidComposer" in the first line.
In clear, you can get it by directly by the website, here:
http://www.musicdevelopments.com/shop.html
And to have deep information, just browse within the menu at the leftmost side of the pages.
And this huge tool is in permanent evolution, with a very active community here at KVR.
- v3 Beta Feedback And Discussion (Bugs, Features, Suggestions)
- Bug reports (to use on previous versions)
- A few Custom Phrases
- User Songs
- Etc. (all this KVR sub-forum: MusicDevelopments)
