How can I manage my vsti presets? For example, I have a vst synth with a bank of 64 presets, and I want to make a new bank with some of those presets. How can I do this? Do I need an external utility?

save the prests you want from the bank to a folder & grab the bank creation utility from patcharena.com

That utility will make a bank from whatever patches are in the folder you assign it to look in.

ciao,

ciao,
thanks, tracktion gives me an error message but it seems to work. are the number of presets that appear when you open the preset list fixed for different vst instruments?

eh?

Preset banks go up to 128 AFAIK..That's the standard.

Do you mean you recieve an error when you attempt to open a bank you created? That's odd, cause it doesn't matter how many patches are in a bank as long as they're under 128..

Unless there's some wierd Tracktion shit going on..I dunno, I don't use Tracktion :D

No it isn't.

The VST spec doesn't define a max or min (though one is preferred) preset count. The plugin tells the host at initialisation time how many programs per bank it supports. If the host attempts to deliver too many, bad things may happen.

Learn something new every day.

I thought 128 was the speed limit.

I've had bad luck, too. Sorry, I can't offer you any help, but just to let you know you're not the only one:

I created several Green Machine presets and saved them as .fxp. I downloaded the utility that sickle666 referred to and converted them into a .fxb. It wouldn't load up in Green Machine.

Now, I don't think it's the utility because people have used it successfully plenty. Beyond that I didn't know if it was GMA2 or T, so I just gave up.

Is that the same utility that used to only work with Vanguard presets only? I thought the utility had issues with other vst's. I guess I should check it out again. It would be awsome if it worked. :)

Iis there any way to patch the max/min number of presete for a vsti? There are just too many for pro-53, yo always have to scroll down a lot.
Can't tracktion manage the presets (in a future release ;)? It's nice to save user banks with tracktion but it would be even nicer if you could manage the presets in these bank. Anyone else like that?

I find huge banks a pain in the ass, too; however, I don't know how practical it would be to have Tracktion handle those duties, as each plug-in is already hard-coded to either conform to the Steinberg SDK or to use its own proprietary way (or a blend). So T trying to take over those duties could muck things up if I'm not mistaken.

Though, for the majority of plug-ins, to have a 3rd party app divide banks into 2 halves (keeping the original intact, mind) would be sweet.
