One thing that puts me off software is setting up all the controllers, is there a way this could be enhanced?

One such possibility, on the novation nocturn there is the ability to adjust whatever the mouse cursor was on, could this be something you could do in mulab?

Great software BTW, I'm looking at switching from my basic hardware setup to software, but though mulab is extremely easy to use, this one thing makes software a pain in backside IMHO.

The free version is a great way to test and I'm grateful for this. So thanks for giving us this great freebie :tu:

You can do that in MuLab, but with Nocturn, like other Novation controllers you may need to first open the Automap server app. Also, https://www.mutools.com/info/docs/mux/u ... llers.html

Cool, but I don't have a nocturn!
I was suggesting that this could be done irrespective of the controller used.

It can in several ways; see the link.

Thanks for replying Michael. Maybe I'm dumb? I don't see how hovering a parameter gives control of that parameter. Without the right click setup procedure?

Did I explain properly? Do you own a Nocturn? I suppose you know how it works as you pointed out that it's necessary to load the automapped VST.

Just to clarify, I mean that hovering your mouse cursor over, say, cutoff, of any VST or mux preset, would instantly give you hardware control.

For example, this needs to be set to work, so I would assume it necessary to choose an unused CC, set a knob to that CC, then whenever you hover over a parameter, mulab automatically gives that knob control over that parameter.

Is that a possibility? If it is, maybe this could be an easier instant way to setup controller maps?

Or maybe I'm talkin out me arse :-D

Why not use the scroll wheel? Simply hovering a MUX parameter enables wheeling it. And many VSTs behave the same.

Yeah I see what you're saying but it's just not the same as twiddling a real knob! ;-) :-D

The mouse wheel is a real too ;)
Oh and when it would be a MIDI controller knob, you also have to take into account that values are absolute and that would make unexpected jumps in the knob on screen. No such trouble with the mouse wheel.

As I said, I see what you're saying, it is usable for small and subtle changes, but hardware is much more easier, effortless even, when compared to a scroll wheel.

Sorry to be awkward! :-(

Are you against the idea? Or do you feel it warrants more acceptance?

MIDI CC96 and CC97 are Increment and Decrement - it would be nice if they worked like the mousewheel (with optional stepsize) - if mouseover acted like selecting an RPN/NRPN, having CC96/97 work would be logical... (Having RPN/NRPN able to map to VST parameters would be fun for those with the hardware to support it.)

Sounds feasible, needs to be super easy to setup and once set, works everytime with anything loaded.

Is this something you like too?

You could use pitch bend or mod wheel if you wanted that control. Most hardware doesn't have this depth of settings, least not stuff I've owned. So it's not a concern unless it causes 'stepping' when adjusting a parameter

I understand your feature request. But as i already have my hands full with the M8 works i can't promise anything. I also regard this as a quite specialized feature and as long as there only is one code dev i'll have to be realistic with what is realistic and what not. Luckily a good mouse wheel already covers most of this request imho.

OK thanks, I appreciate your position, I do hope you change your mind. I look forward to m8, don't suppose you can give us some hints on what's planned? ;-)

When will it be released, as I may wait til then to purchase a full license. Don't have the spondoolies at present :-(

I can't yet make 'official' statements on what will be in M8 but research is also inspired by this. I expect it will still take a couple of months before it's ready for release, but before that test versions may already be available here on the forum.
